...concerning camera bodies.
I have a 5DIII which is my workhorse camera.
I also have a 5DII that was the workhorse until the III arrived. It has about 160K clicks so may need a shutter before long.
In the past I've always had two bodies that were the same. Now I'm thinking I'll just keep the 5DII as backup. Which brings me to my conundrum; I had a 7D for a short time. I liked the camera but wanted to find a good walk around zoom say 18-200 or so. My wife has a Sigma on a xTi type camera and I've never been overly impressed with it. What other options are there?

Keep in mind that my lenses for the 5DIII include prime and zoom Ls also TSEs. Naturally all of those will work on a crop body but I want one lens that covers from about 28mm to at least 150mm (FF equivalent on crop)

Another option that I have been toying with is a Fuji X Pro 1 with 18mm then getting the 35mm equiv, and the 85mm equiv when they become available.

In film days I shot Nikon and Hassy in the studio and had a Leica M4 for personal use with similar lenses to those mentioned for the X Pro 1.

I've read on the fora that the X Pro 1 has some focusing issues which could be a deal killer.
On the other hand, the 7D I sold had trouble getting a Tokina 11-16mm to focus. I tried 3 of them before giving up.

How is the V2 firmware for the 7D?
What would be the best walk around lens for a 7D?
If Canon would introduce a 24-105mm F2.8 I'd get it in a second. I love the 24-105mm but that with 5DIII or II is not long enough for walking around. At least for me.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Best walk around lens for a Canon 7D ? It highly depends upon what you want out of a lens. As you are asking about a zoom with a minimal equivalent to a 150mm on FF- I see three options- Canon options...

Canon 15-85 - just a little short of the 150mm equivalent but is supposed to be one heck of a lens. Well regarded.
Canon 18-135 IS STM. Covers the 28~216 equivalent range. This lens is sharper than the older 18-135 IS lens.
Canon 18-135 IS. Same range.. as sharp, imo, as the 18-55.

As sharp as the 18-135 STM lens is- I would find it hard to believe that the 15-85 is much better.

There are a number of fans out there of even the 18-200.. I am sure that here on POTN, there are a lot of those that will put it down because it's a superzoom, etc- but it's probably not that bad.. Probably a decent lens... It's the same way with the 18-135 IS and the 18-135 IS STM lenses.

The MFT charts for the 15-85 and 18-135 IS STM are very similar, and show an improvement over the 18-135 IS, which is better than the 18-55 IS kit lens. Not really sure how accurate the charts are and what exactly they mean. I saw room for improvement with the 18-55 IS and even with the 18-135 IS- but there does not seem like there is significant differences with the 15-85 - however, I have never had a 15-85 in my hands either..
Of course, your 24-105L would make a nice walkabout lens for your 7D- provided you can live with the 24mm on the wide end...
