Sports camera questions

Hey guys, I've been shooting the past year with a 7D and I am considering upgrading to the 1D line.
So here is my question: should I sell my 7D and buy a 1D2n and 1D3? Or just keep saving and add the 1D3 to the 7D in the future.

Planning on eventually having a 400/2.8 on one body and a 70-200/2.8 on the other. If you have any other suggestions please lemme know!

You can save and buy my 1D3 this spring when the competitive gymnastics season, and my sports shooting career is (happily) over!

Keep the 7D and add the 1D mkiii, isnt the 1D2n older model.?
The 7d is great body for sport shooting dont you think..

I just picked up a used 1Dmkiii and love it along with my 7D ,That is my camera line up.
But I also have the 40D & 50D too...

What kind of shooting will you use it for that the 7D can give you now..??

The 7D is a decent backup and since you plan to have 2 lenses in your setup, what would be the point of selling the 7D? When you do eventually get a 1D you will wonder why you kept the 7D so long. While I am thinking about your desires...how long will it take you to save up for a 400 2.8? Holy cow, if that is within your reach why are you sweating a thousand dollar decision?

I shoot hockey, soccer, Football, baseball, but Mostly paintball.
As far as the 400 2.8 goes I wasn't planning on getting the IS So saving a little

I would never trade one of my 7Ds for a 1D2n.

never, ever, ever, ever.

I've considered trading one of my 7Ds for a 1D3 but always end up sticking with the 7D.

The 7D has so many advantages for sports, and gives up only frame rate and maybe a little focusing against the 1D3.

The crop factor, extra mega pixels and excellent high ISO noise keep me sticking with the 7D until I can afford a 1D4 or better.

A 7D and a 1D3 are basically equivalent. Some pluses and minuses for each one. Keep what you have and save up for the 400 and a 1D4.

I sold my 7D and kept my 1D3, but I could have easily gone the other way. My two main cameras are both 5D3s, except for football. For football, I rock the 1D3 on the 400, 5D3 on 70-200 and 5d3 on 24-105.

FWIW: my 1D3 delivers significantly better IQ than my T2i (sensor as 7D). The high-ISO noise is much more film-like, and the RAW files are easier to work with and the results are easier to get. It's also going to give you 25% more shots in a burst.

I like the idea of keeping the 7D and getting a 1D3. I'm not letting my T2i go anywhere, and a 7D would be even better.

keep the 7D, pick up a 1dIIn or 1dIII. for paintball your going to want to use your big zoom lens and then a smaller one for the pits and stuff.

side note are you going to Vegas?

Thanks guys, I think you're right, I'll keep the 7d for now. Save for a second body and 400! I won't be at Vegas but I will be at cup. I'm gonna try to be at most NPPL events next season.
