I poked around, couldn't find an answer to this one.
My friends hired a photographer for their wedding, agreed on all the services, packages, price, etc. They think that if I photography is hobby of mine I should know answers to all photography related questions. Ugh!
Anyway, the question is - should they tip the photographer after the wedding on top of the agreed amount?

Do you guys get tipped or it's an icing on a cake and isn't expected?

Thanks

I've gotten tipped before, and it is really nice to get something you aren't expecting. Especially with all the hard work I do. It doesn't happen all the time though.

As a general rule you don't tip a business owner. If the business hired a couple photographers at an hourly wage then a tip might be in order.

I get tipped about twice a year shooting weddings.

The best one was a groom wrote a check for $200 and mailed it to me from his honeymoon with a hand written letter.

Guess who's pics got moved to the front of the to do list.

This. You don't tip the bourgeois capitalist-lackey business owner, you tip his downtrodden wage-slaves.

I see tips 2-3 times per year, and when I see that, I do move them up as well! they don't know that they got moved up, but they certainly notice a quick turnaround!!!

A wedding I did a few weeks ago; the bride and groom came up to me during the reception and handed me an envelope with around $200 in it to thank me for all the hard work I did during the day.

I refused to take it until they stuffed it in my bag :)

I've been tipped when I worked in a family studio but never at an event for my business. Well, never tipped with money. ;)
