Fan-tailed Ravens - Masada, Israel

Another life list addition. I captured these birds as they soared on the thermals at the top of Masada the 2000 year old desert fortress/palace of Herod the Great overlooking the Dead Sea.

These birds are about the size of carrion crows but with a fairly strong beak like other ravens.

1. Incoming

What a powerful looking bird. The detail on the underside of the wings is wonderful. Congratulations on anther lifer Stephen.

Thanks Ian. We got back on August 18 th. What you don't feel is the heat that day, somewhere between 42 & 44 degrees Celsius!!!

I saw mine at the same place back in January 1999!! Great Shots!
