So Sony has finally updated their lineup to include a FF the new Alpha 99. Anybody have it to test yet ?? This could be the one for me as it is £2499 in WEX, but as my brother in law is a Sony employee I can get a very generous staff discount.

I am waiting now for any new camera from Canon to be announced in the next few days to see where I will go next. I am due an upgrade as I have had my 7d for 2 years :D. A FF for a lot less than a 5D3 with the Sony sensor could be an awesome camera..........

You would honestly sell all the gear in your signature, because you camera is two years old?

I want to get into landscape stuff more. Most of my long lens are rarely used these days. My 7d has started to play up ( its draining my batteries when they're in the camera when its unused ) so it needs money spent on it, so I am seriously considering a new camera. I would like a 5diii with a 24-70ii but its 5k ??? Can I really spend that on a camera and 1 lens as a hobby shooter.
I feel Canon are pricing people like me out of the market. How much of an improvement in IQ will I see over a 7d & 17-55 without printing huge. I don't shoot in circumstances that require high ISO's. A Sony FF is very tempting. I'm hoping the IQ will be outstanding. If it receives rave reviews, than at the discount I can get it will test me to sell up and change systems. I bought most of my lens used except my 70-200 so I won't take a hit on the resale, it's just the inconvenience of selling them.
If Canon announce a new body in the next few days for me it needs to be,
Reasonably priced,
Better noise control over my 7d,
More MP's.

Does it have IS built into the body.... Man that would be nice, but I simply can't deal with an electronic viewfinder... I know its a personal preference thing but its definitely a deal breaker for me.

Sony pushes the envelope a little not enough to make we want to jump.

Nikon D850 and a bunch of stuff, I have learned a lot here when I was shooting Canon, staying to keep learning..."Every time I set up I learn something new".

^ This is just as likely (more likely IMO) a battery problem, not a body problem. Older batteries don't hold a charge as well. Much cheaper and less effort to replace just the battery if this is the main thing bugging you about your 7D.

A99: $2,800
Sony 24-70 2.8 Zeiss: $1,900
Total: $4,700

Not that much of a savings....

Canon will have a new camera eventually, and then so will Nikon, and then so will Sony, and then so will Canon, and then so will Nikon, ect. See where I am going with this?

You have a great kit of lenses. If you are really not using it, why not sell the 300mm 2.8 to fund the change to Canon FF? Otherwise, the Sony equivelant is $7,000, and they are brining out a new version for $7,500. So if you switch to Sony you will have to spend a whole lot to replace that spot in your lineup.

Sony's dslr/t cameras are pretty big in Asia. Don't know why the aren't so popular here.
For me the lack, it's not about a camera when it comes to interchangeable lens cameras. It's about the total support system. In this respect Canon and Nikon reigns. genuine Zeiss glass is uber-expensive and ROI aren't great.

For landscape stuff. You can't beat the 5d2 for the money.

Nah it's the camera. I have 2 batteries, a Canon and a Hahnel. Both will hold their charge out of the camera but, when they're inserted into my 7d they loose 25% charge overnight. They hold 100% charge when they're out :(
If they're left in the camera with the camera off they will be flat in a few days..........

You've forgotten to factor in my staff discount tho ;) If I get a refurb could be as much as 50% on the body. I'm not sure of the lens prices though, but I know my bro in law often as access to Zeiss lens to borrow..........

True, enough, I did forget you have a discount. And hey it is up to you, I just think it would be a shame to sell such a great lens collection on the basis of body technology at one given moment in time. Heck, even today Sony has already got to be nervous about their A99 annoucnement after Nikon released an equally/better equipped D600 for $2,100 (or $2,700 w/ a lens). Canon will follow suit with something soon, and thus the cycle will continue.

I am only saying, for me, it would take a lot more than just what body happens to be the "best" at any given time to sell everything and switch. However some people seem to switch their systems back at a whim every year when the newest camera is out by one mfg or another.
