Beautiful capture. I also think much of the frame can be cropped on the right side. Welcome aboard.

I love shots like this (have taken a couple myself). I would crop it a bit closer but other than that, it's perfect.
Welcome aboard.

Life is hard...but I just take it one photograph at a time.

I love this shot. thanks for sharing.

by the way, did you ask the parents before or after taking the shot? or do they not know?

I have often wondered about this. Being new to this whole world, is it a requirment to ask parents permission before taking pictures of kids like this, or is it just a courtesy? I have taken a few pics of kids myself and was wondering. I have not even thought about asking permission. I hope I have not offended anyone so far. Thoughts?
Thanks
Ed

its just that many parents feel iffy about strangers taking pictures of their kids. ive taken a couple without asking also. but recently you read all these news online about photographers getting into trouble just because they have a big camera.

Good point. I guess there is more to think about then just "the shot". I will keep this in mind.
Thanks

Shoot first if you see the moment though. But never try to hide yourself from the surroundings. And offer the family the photo whether you want to charge or not. Generally that's a way of handling a situation with parents. At least its worked with me.

Awesome shot. I agree with the tighter crop, but not the comment about the highlights on the face. I think it's perfect tonality-wise. The white-black range is perfect IMNSHO. Beautiful shot!

I'm neither a professional nor an art expert, but I think the crop is just right ... gives the image a sense of being somewhere instead of just a cliche "child's reflection" shot. I do agree about the highlights on the girl's face though, just a little less glow there would make the picture a little more balanced in my opinion.
