hi all
i have a canon 1d mk2 and mainly use a 24-105 as my walk about lens with a 70-200 f/4 for when i need a bit of distance.
i would like to go a bit wider but with what lens?
i cant use efs lenses so the 10-22 is no good and the 17-40 with the 1.3 crop is not as wide as i would like to be.
any thoughts

thanks

The Sigma 12-24mm f/4.5-5.6 works on APS-H cameras:

There are also a couple of threads about using the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 on APS-H cameras. Here is one:

canon 14mm prime ouch:rolleyes:

i could get a 7d and a sigma 10-20 for that money:)
i have offten wondered about the point of the 1.3 crop
dont get me wrong the mk2 is a fantastic camera but you dont get the reach of the 1.6 crop or the wide angle of the full frame

thanks

For me the 1.3x is the perfect balance between the 1.6x and FF..
you have better IQ than 1.6x and yet you do not have to have a MASSIVE buffer and other things to get respectable fps and burst rates..
plus you get a bit more reach over FF...it isnt a massive different, like 1.6x, but still different..

The 5D2 was an amazing camera for me, but the 1D4 is THE camera for me..
so to each his own! :)

I would SERIOUSLY look at the Rokinon 14mm/2.8!! Useable on Full frame, CHEAP, SHARP, etc
But, no AF...who cares, with 14mm and ~F/4-8 set at 1m and you can literally point in any direction and get in focus sharp images..

I have the same issue with needing an UWA, and the Rokinon 14 is where my $ will be going..
fwiw

good luck!

Tokina 11-16 f2.8.

It is designed for 1.6 crop but will mount and function on FF so 1.3 crop should be fine. It wil vignette at 11mm but by 13 or 14mm you should be fine.

16-35L.

It ends up to be a 20mm wide angle on APS-H. Wide enough for me as it's wider than a standard zoom.

The widest I had when using my 1D 2 was 17mm (17-40 L). I wished I had wider at times but never justified spending the money on it.

I use a 10-22 on my 1d mark IV just fine, it works great. I keep it above 12 mm and have never had an issue with it.

How? The EF-S mount with that rubber gasket thing prevents you from mounting it on EF bodies.

Unless you removed it. Some people have.

Yes I modified it. You can use the 10-22 by simply removing the rear baffle and using it from 11mm-22mm. On a 1D this lens will vignette from 11mm-12.5mm and from what I've heard will have mirror slap from 10-11mm so I keep it over 12mm and never have a problem. The minor vinetting from 12-12.5 can be easily fixed in lightroom.

To seal the lens backup like original I ordered a new baffle at a total cost of roughly $9 shipped to me. Part number CY1-2759-000

Do you have any pics of the back of the lens after modding? Is the new baffle from a different lens? Do you know which lens it comes from?

Thanks!

Yogi
