For a surf shooting hobbyist I'm generally satisfied with the IQ of my shots, but Butch - this is a whole other level of clarity - Is it the gear or the processing?? Mind sharing a SOOC version of this shot?
I honestly don't know how I missed this post, Andy... Sorry about that... Simply put, I pretty much AUTO everything... Add some subtle saturation to the image, to add some 'pop' to it... Gave him some fill light on the dark side of his face... Finally added USM for sharpness (Amount 30%, Radius .25, and Threshold at 2)... Not much, really... The image was already sharp to begin with...
Each image is different, of course... I'll apply little things here and there, depending on the shot... For example, if there was a great surfing shot but there's a few 'water splashes' in his face, I'll try to clone it out... Or if the water is overexposed, I'll try to bring back some of the details through CS6's ACR (Adobe Camera Raw); it's really good at that... That's why shooting RAW is important... There's so much data in the image that can be recovered that a JPEG file can't retrieve... Hence, I always shoot RAW...
One of these days, I'll need to sit down with y'all and show you my work flow for a particular image... You'd be surprised at how much data can be recovered if a shot is overexposed, underexposed, or lifeless... Hehehehehehhee... Thanks for asking, Andy!!!
