The tamron was always sharper than the Siggy in tests but the 17-50 VC is not a patch on the non VC version.

I consider the 17-50 VC to be an anomaly, the 24-70 VC for instance is actually better than the Mk 1 Canon 24-70 f/2.8L and a good grand less than the Mk2 (Which i concede is likely better but still...)

70-200 Mk II > Tamron

You have a crystal ball?
One thing I predict is 70-200 Mk II > Tamron regarding price (in the bad way).

Yeah pretty much

I expect it to sit between the Mk1 and Mk2 in terms of optics most likely, but probubly cost around $1300...

Agreed, the VC on my wife's 70-300 VC is way better than the IS on my F/4 IS or the F/2.8 IS IIs I've used.

x3 Tamron's VC rocks.......

The best usually commands a premium price. It was totally worth the price as well.

I have the Tamron non-VC 70-200. And optically it's only second to the Canon 70-200 IS II by 1/3 or 2/3 stop, at center at least, i.e. the tamron at 3.2 or 3.5 can match the Canon at 2.8. At 3.2 the lens is razar sharp.

If the new Tamron can improve the PQ slightly, add VC and fast AF, and sell for around $1200. It will sell well, I'm pretty sure.

Canon 50mm f/1.8 | Sigma 50mm f/1.4 | Canon 100mm f/2

I was on the fence about the Tamron 70-200 for a long time. The fact that it was able to come so close to the vaunted 70-200ii for the price was amazing, but after using the Tamron 70-300VC and seeing what the VC and USD could improve, I vowed to wait until they updated it. I just hope they really nail the IQ.

The 90mm macro at a good price will make a great alternative to the 100L if it keeps the IQ up to standards.

Exciting time to be in the photo game. Options options options :)

Not to mention, I'm pretty sure you could be falling down a flight of stairs and get a solid shot with their VC on the lens...:p .

LOL!! bw!

Hmmm... Finally announced. It's about time they updated this lens. I had my heart set on the Sigma but will have to wait now to see this one.

it seems like it's either going to have to be better than the sigma OS, or be cheaper than the sigma in order for it to be a big seller...
