I don't now if Canon has anything ready yet. More interesting to me is what Sony did for the A99. Same sensor mp as this D600 which does make you wonder if it's the same but the sony seems more full featured.

No doubt Sony has better features, but I think glass is what is keeping people away from them. Except for their very best Zeiss glass (that is as expensive as Canon L or Nikon's best) they don't actually have anything to offer yet. Not to speak they lack a lot in the super-telephoto field.

Photography is about GEAR and not talent or practice. Practice won't make you a better photographer. Expensive equipment will. =D

This camera is almost a 5D3 copycat for 1500 dollars less!

I don't really think one can expect the D600 to match up to the 5d3 can you?

Alex_Venom wrote in post #14985534 (external link)
Even if they make the 3DX using everything the 5D3 has but made of polycarbonate and with the 7D AF, it would be less a camera than the D600 is already.

Surely a 3d would be in between the 5d and the 1d series making it even "better" than the 5d3? If a 3d does come out I can imagine it will be a higher megapixel FF camera.

I'm sure Canon will have something up their sleeve... they're not silly and will have known about Nikon's D600. Whether we'll see it at Photokina or not is another issue.

I never saw the D800 as a game changer, but this camera could be a huge problem for Canon. To someone just starting out, the D600 specs appear very close to those of the 5DIII and in some aspects appear better at a ~$1K cheaper price.

I'm sure Canon must have something planned, but what features can you realistically take away from the 5DIII to match this $2k price point and still have a competitive camera?

I would drop the price of the 5DIII and release something above it. I know it won't happen but the D600 appears to be a whole lot of camera for $2k. I know many will disagree with that, but most of us are well versed in camera specs and what they mean, alot of buyers at this price point will not be....

This is great news for Nikon users. The D600 is a dead ringer for my 5D Mark III for a $1500 less.
Kind of upsetting.
I had to think deep and long to decide to go for it over the D800E (my 6 L lenses convinced me otherwise). Next time around it will be different. I do like the usability of my Mark III, definitely better than my 5D
Too bad Canon has not been an innovator in this segment for a while.

These AF points are functional down to f/8 and are ideally paired for use with tele-converters and longer lenses

I must have missed this first time round on the bhp review... that's nice. Well played Nikon.

KR chimes in on the D600

Well, the jury is in thankfully we can all stop reading/commenting on this new camera now that KR has chimed in.

Ken Rockwell gives the D600 a "Whoo hoo!" I'm wondering if KR and his "Whoo hoo" is a graduated scale, but clearly that's a discussion for another time. All that matters now is it got one and we can move on with our boring lives. Want to be humble and amazed at the same time, you can see the "Whoo hoo" for yourself at the following link

"I'm very happy; I didn't think Nikon would ever actually release this camera; an improved version of the D800 for less money than any full-frame digital camera ever made. Whoo hoo!"

D600 = game changer

likely a better sensor than the 5D3, which has got to hurt. I think the sony A99 has got to be the best body on the market though.

It appears to be a great camera at a fair price, it's just a shame it's a Nikon. :(

Crazy.

Looking at B&H, I could purchase the following:

D600 + 24-70/2.8G + 35/1.8G + 85/1.8G + SB700 = $5007

OR

5DIII + 24-70/2.8LII = $5758

I see the 5D III will have to drop in price or Canon will soon enough be releasing their on Mid Sized FF body to better compete.

D600 has no micro adjustment feature. That'll be a deal breaker for some.

Nikon call MFA "fine tuning" and the D600 has it, according to all the sources I've read.

Prices in the UK will have to reduce quite a bit . One major chain is pre-ordering at £1,955 - less than the 5D3, but not in 5D2 territory.

Damn Nikon !!!! Finally Canon is getting it's arse kicked.

Hopefully I'll be able to buy 5D MK III during Christmas time when we'll for sure see some good discounts from major retailers. Ain't holding my breath for 6D.

I am really excited about what it means as is obvious that the trend has enphasis on FF sensor at a more modest price.
I hope Canon follows the trend, supposedly with the 6D, at a competitive price point.
I am sure many buyers that where considering investing on a first FF will be attracted to Nikon D600 price point.
I am not ready to jump ship just yet , but I will certainly sit and wait how the FF market behaves.
The Nikon D600 will be an excellent camera and a good thing for everyone interested in upgrading to FF regardless of the brand you use today. I think.

The price point as a hobbiest for me needs to be about $1,300 before I would invest in a full frame.
