In defence of Bolantej- i don't think he was being critical of your post- pretty sure he was just asking if you had any questions that needed answering

My own experience of the 75-300 IS has been -

The image quality is quite good at the short and mid focal lengths, but not quite good enough at the long end.
I also found that i rarely used the image stabilizer feature so it probably doesn't surprise that i think this lens is poor value for money.Of course anyone that CAN make good use of the image stabilization would look at it differently.
Happily canon have now replaced this model with an (apparently excellent) improved version which looks like it might please a whole lot more users :)

I was posting photos of that peticular lens, for input, as to see what others thought of this inexpensive lens.

I have not as of yet, been infected with the L virus, thankfully, because I am not going into debt for it. If, it is a crime, to post just anything, other than an L lens topic. Call me guilty, I plan on getting there one of these days, but it will be on my time, and not anybody elses.

I see you are a Senior Member, so I am not sure how to take your comment. I will assume you are asking in a constuctive way, and not an arogant way. I am well aware of personalities of authority figures. Many, are in their place, for all the wrong reasons, and you know what they say when we assume.

So, on that note, I will take your comment, as one of a question, as to help others. Also, I will note that, in the future, I will add more to my post, to give direction as to where I was trying to go, and what I would like to get back in return.

I was just putting it out there, to see what others thought, of the pictures, from that lens, or should I just go and buy the 15-55, and have a good day.

You remind me of some one from another forum, you have only been a member since March of 05, have 1200 post , became a senior member, and make incomplete post yourself to others. For what reason, I can only guess, and I am sure, you will quickly let me know, (Raven).

You can post pictures, or links to pictures, regardless of the lens that was used. It is, however, much easier for us to understand why you posted them if you say why, rather than just "Pictures from. . . ". That way we know whether you're concerned about lens quality, you think you have a good sample, or you found an interesting subject and think you've taken an especially nice photo. Bolantej asked for more information so he'd have some idea how to respond to your post. Sometimes the best answer to an unclear post is simply a request for more information.

I have the 75-300 IS. I use it when weight and space are more important than length or aperture. It's not bad, but it's not in the same category as my L glass.

I had this lens at one time and got some decent photos out of it. Where its main downfall is, in my opinion, is when you print larger pictures of crop out areas to print. Then the inherent softness of the lens becomes apparent.

I had to get rid of mine. Between the soft focus and the constant hunting it drove me crazy.

Thanks, for the comments, I still have not been able, to use it on a sunny day,, but, I hear you, on the constant hunting thing.

I can't believe it would be that sensitive, the Canon EF-S17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM, does not seem to do this, I really like the Canon EF-S17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM. I will try the Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Lens w/ Hood, on a sunny day and see what happens. If it is still there, I will call canon, it should not operate any different then the, Canon EF-S17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM.

As for the hood, I am still not of an opinion, I have just had it on, for protection, but I am starting to thing it is a hinderance in cloudy day weather.

This picture was taken with the Canon 75-300 f/4-5.6 IS USM. I've taken many excellent pictures with this lens using a 20D and I don't understand why it is so maligned. I've found it an excellent lens when you have good light for sport pictures such as the one above. For the money I don't think you can beat this lens. Perhaps the new 70-300 is better but I still love this lens.

Remember, the 75-300 IS USM is Canon's oldest IS lens, dating back to 1995. They've made one or two improvements in the mechanics of AF since then.

A hood won't affect performance in cloudy conditions. It will, however, help keep raindrops (or snow) off the front of the lens if the clouds decide to unload anything.
