Hi all im new to the forums,

Ive searched to see if anyones posted something similar, although ive seen people reporting vertical and horizontal lines, mine is diagonal and i feel is quite different. So apollogies if this has been posted before...

To begin with ive definatley not had it at lasers and and such!

Heres my problem:
ive just recently purchased the canon 600D (my first DSLR), last saturday to be exact! with the included kit lens EF-S 18-55mm IS II, over the course of the weekend ive been using it and getting to grips with it.
as i will be using it for filming i decided the narrow and widen depth of fields i can create using the aperture.
now when ive narrowed the shot using the smallest f-stop available, there is no diagonal line therefore my ISO is pretty low in conjuction with a shutter speed at 1/30" if i can remember correctly. when its narrow the image is ok, the evil diagonal line is not there!
Now when i force the aperture towards the other end hitting roughly f22 at an extremely high ISO of 6400 with a shutter speed same as last time 1/30" the diagonal line will appear to the top left part of the screen, in movie mode, the line seems darker and more sharper than when photographed, ill post a quick picture below to show said line, (ill also try and get a pic of it on a white peice of paper so you can hopefully see it more clearly) and if you want i can upload a video to youtube to show you guys what its like on the filming front...

heres the image:

IMAGE: http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/690/problemkt.jpg

ive also cleaned the sensor from the menu and that didnt change a thing.
Hopefully im right guessing this shouldnt be happening and it's definatley not the norm because ive searched the internet and hit nothing!
This is my first DSLR so im not 100% sure if im actually doing something wrong here myself or its something that usually happens etc.

Any help would be fantastic
Thanks in advance guys! :)

That's too straight a line for some debris on the sensor, I would say it was a sensor fault and needs to be sent into Canon or back to the retailer for warranty repair.

Given that you got it recently, I'd push for a new replacement body rather than a repair

A few things to try before you take the next step sending back to canon - shoot one pic with a bright background and one with a dark background, try this without a lens too. If yhis produces the same results I would either ask a friend if you have one with a EF lens or ask your local camera store if you can use a lens to test your camera. If the artifact is still there wit a different lens then you know its the sensor.

Thank you all for replying back to my post, taken by the comments on here, its definatley not something normal then, which im happy to know!

So with that knowledge, Im well within the period to send it back for a replacement and not directly to Canon, which i shall be doing so tomorrow.

Ive taken pictures in daylight and nightime, also under different lighting such as bulbs/tungsten etc, my results pretty much stay the same with the settings above, the only difference is that when theres more light the line disapears on the screen but when i press the button near the lens (cant remember what its called) to show the final result, or take the picture the line is then on the image.

If the problem is the lens, the camera and the lens would still have to be replaced as a whole as it is all in the same box from where i bought it, but personally id actually like to know if it is the lens or the sensor, so i may just have to pop into the camera shop near me if i have time tomorrow just for curiositys sake.

On another note, im just wondering do the Canon DSLR's have alot of problems with these sensors then?

No, it is very far and few between that there are sensor issues right out of the box. Swap it out and you will love the 600d to pieces.

Thats very good to hear!, im already loving it :) obviously finding this evil line lurking within it was a downer but my statutory rights keep me protected, biggest factor i love about these DSLR's is that you can do both filming and photography, hitting two birds with one stone is the way forward! haha.

Is there anything else i should look out for when getting a new DSLR, like things i should do specifically to make sure its 100% in working order, other than just play with it and see what comes up.
