Awww, what a fantastic early christmas gift!!! Got a knock on the door this afternoon, and there it was, sitting in it's box, my 300 f/4L IS. I tore that shipping box open with my teeth I was so excited!!! It's absolutely gorgeous!!!

Sold my 70-200 f/4L a little while ago, and used the funds to purchase the 300L IS off another FM member. Man did it take a while though, USPS is ssssllooowwwwwwwww this time of year I guess....

Anyway the IS is so sweet! I've never used an IS lens before and I am just totally baffled by it. Looking through the view finder it's so weird.... it like moves around... and this thing is huge! Way bigger than my 70-200L. Still small though I guess. Very hand holdable, but built like a tank.

I put out three bird feeders and tore up a whole bunch of hot dog buns hoping it'll attract some wild life for tomorrow. I'm hoping for some blue jay's and cardinals.

Well, I don't have any pics from it right now, but I'll post a few from around the house in a few mins, and hopefully some of birds tomorrow.

Oh, and MERRY CHRISTMAS EVE!!:D

I also have this lens; it's terrific.
Merry Christmas to you too.

Congratulations ... FedEx has been 10x worse than UPS in my area. Right now I am very aggravated with FedEx.

I hope you have budgeted for the 1.4X. With this lens it is great. Some people like the 400 f5.6 better but the IS can't be beat. Especially hand held. I'm going out Monday to try and get some bird photo's with this combination. Enjoy..

Well, I got a few quick picks this afternoon inbetween playing with what Santa brought me. Unfortunately the 100% crop keeps failing to upload at photo bucket so I'll try that again later, but here's the pick,

1/400th, ISO 400, f/5.6

HTTP response: 404 | MIME changed to 'image/gif' | Byte size: ZERO | PHOTOBUCKET ERROR IMAGE

Sorry it's not a good one, but oh well. I'm loving this lens, but I must say it's not as sharp as I was hoping it to be... it's sharp, but it's not like, WOW sharp, ya know? I'd have to say my old 70-200L was sharper, and my new 35L blows it right out of the water.
