First off, I'd like to say.... it survived. Now for the short story.

It may seem strange, but this all started with my cat Lucy. A lovable cat, although I confess I was ready to kill her for the short space of time after the accident: cat's are intelligent as she must have sensed this, and darted out the door before I could stamp on her. (Not really, I would never harm Lucy). Anyway. Lucy, being the smart cat she is, has devised ways of letting me know when she wants to go out, one of which being jumping up onto an old, expensive, and varnished cabinet by the door, so that I run over and let her out. This method of getting my attention is one of my least favourite, as she has already scarred this cabinet with her scrambling around on the ice-rink varnished surface...

Anyway, on this particular day I had just finished doing some shots of my house, and left the camera on the cabinet surface, which, incidentally is around 4 foot from the ground, and which, incidentally, is stood on a hard slate floor, which covers all of the downstairs hall.

After hearing a loud crash, I immediately knew it was 'that bloody cat' fooling around, although at this point I didn't realise how potentially expensive the sound I heard could be. As you will have guessed, I found my G2 lying on the slate floor (I don't think its possible to find a material less compassionate to falling objects). This is a tribute to my new Tiffen filters really: I think that they, along with the converter adaptor, cushioned most of the force. This is lucky really, as I can only imagine what an impact like that would have done to a corner of my G2. Similar to the comet hitting the Earth that wiped out the dinosaurs, only on a slightly smaller scale.

After my heart had started beating again, I picked up my G2, only to find some white dusty residue where the Tiffen lens had actually eaten into the slate. I switched it on, and put it through its paces, and everything is working fine.

So, this is my thanks to the combined built quality of cannon and Tiffen - well done guys. Now, I think I shall look for my cat...

I agree that the G2 is very durable. I had my camera for only a day before I dropped it on the cement stairs. I even posted a note in this forum about it. I was running down the stairs with the camera (strap) around my neck, when the strap came undone ( I did not put it on properly)..the camera fell to the ground but only a little scuff on the top corner was the result. I love this camera!
