Within the next few weeks I plan on spending some cash on some lenses. I've read the threads and thinking of these two. What are some thoughts, or, better for less lenses. Advice is what I'm seeking. I currently own the 350D. I mostly do nature, astro with a little portrait.

Canon 70-200/4.0 EF-L USM Zoom Lens - Price After Rebate: $564.85
Canon 50/1.4 EF USM Lens - Price After Rebate: $289.00

Both awesoem lenses,. superb image quality. You'll love them both. I would not say it's possible to offer a better deal than these.

If you8 want to triple the rebate,. see if the 17-40mm f/4L is on the list.

You really can't do better than that in terms of bang for buck.

CyberDyne offered a great solution for wider stuff. That lens is defintely a good walk around one, when you want a zoom.

Thanks for the replies. I checked out the 17-40mm f/4L and what a nice lens. Price: 644.85! I think that will bust my budget. :( Would love a wide though.

All ditto, pretty nice and valuable lenses for your budget. You never regret of them. The 70-200 is very sharp, you love it. The 50 f/1.4 you must take some practice until you domain the narrow DOF. They were my first two lens after the kit lens, too!!

Cheers

Theres that 17-40 again. ;) How do the images look on the 350D? Any examples out there? I understand the crop on the 350D is 1.6 so that would make it a 27mm?

Yes, you are correct. You'd have about a 27-28mm lens at the wide end of the lens. It would be a good walk around lens. Many people love this lens. It's one of the best wide angles out there.

I have both of these, and they are excellent. The 70-200 f/4L is compact and light, with optics as good as the more expensive f/2.8L. As long as you don't need the speed (I don't myself), then you'll really enjoy this lens.

Ok, I think I'm going ahead with getting the 17-40 which brings the next question. I found these prices online at the Digital Photo Club. I checked the BBB site and they are rated good to go. Anyone know of any issues or a better place?

I would second the recommendation for B&H, and have also used Adorama, KEH, and Amazon. I've also heard good things about:

Just make sure you're using a reputable dealer.

Finally narrowed it down. I going with refurbished.

1. Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM - 499.95
2. Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM - 599.95
3. Canon RC-1 - 24.95
4. Canon BG-E3 Battery Grip - 139.95
5. Canon Tripod Mount Ring A (B) (Replacement - Black finish) - 89.95

I'm foregoing the 50mm for now since I do mostly landscape and would best be served with the wide and with the savings going with the refurbs picked up ring, grip, and remote. Total cost $1,379.70 with shipping. Is there a better deal?
