so i know my two options are a 16-35 or a 17-40 on a FF body, are there any lenses from tamron or sigma that are just a bit cheaper that will mount a FF in that focal length? will be buying used. i plan to upgrade later but i'd be spending so much now for the FF that i'd just like to cover the focal length to get me through a short while to pull the funds together for a 17-40L.

FM reviews are also really good. Seems like a no brainer if you can find one.

Or, you use your 50 f1.4 and take 2 or 3 images and stitch them together to make a wider image. No extra cost to you now and you can save faster towards your ultimate goal.

just a few of my thoughts...

+1

I love to shoot panoramic style with prime lens, when it comes to landscape/wide pics. The best parts are no distortion and better details. I only used my 14mm if I really have no space to take pics, or want to get very very close to the object. I used mostly my 85mm or even 70-200mm for my landscape pics

But, what are you going to use it for? If you're an event or wedding photographer or any kind of that, then you might be better to get UWA since you don't have time to shoot multiple shots.

I like my T 17-35mm a ton. It's the best bang for the buck for me.

I just got a Sigma 15-30 today and despite some pretty good reviews over on FM, I was prepared to be underwhelmed due to the low price tag. Not being a landscape shooter, or even really a WA guy at all, I just needed something cheap for those times a WA was called for. Well, was I ever wrong!!! Might just be a good copy but this thing is VERY sharp edge to edge at 15mm and not bad at 30. That's wide open. Stopping it down to even 5.6 and its fantastic. Colors are nice (not the normal Sigma warm) and the contrast is good. Obviously there's barrel distortion and there is a tiny bit of CA on extremely high contrast shots but its nothing you wouldn't see in most UWA lenses. The AF is also a bit on the slower side since its not HSM but most aren't buying UWA lenses for speed, at leat I wasn't.

Truth be told, its on par with any of the wide to normal L zooms I've owned and I am more than pleasantly surprised at just how good this thing is. And to think I'd almost written it off before even getting it! For $300, I really don't think you can do much better, if at all.

If you are expecting to see results like you got from your 10-22, you better go 17-40L.
