tutorial for people trying to learn video?

Is there a good write up or tutorial for people trying to learn more video work with DSLR cameras?

Yes there are many. Have a look back through the forum and there are a good many recommendations. As a clue, search Dave Dougdale or Phil Bloom.

Vimeo has a learning section. https://vimeo.com/vide​oschool It will help get you started on the basics and concepts. Then move to Dave Dougdale (start from his earlier videos). Phillip Bloom is probably going to be a little too advanced in the beginning (or atleast, for me when starting lol)
Youtube of course has oogles of videos on basically any topic you might want.

Start by watching the DSLR basics by Phillip Bloom and Andrea Allen on the Vimeo Video School link posted above.

Once you've watched all the DSLR basics videos, search for StillMotion on vimeo and watch all their tutorials.

and it's true what kent say, the road is long and hard, you'll learned by trail and error, your pocket will always look empty depending on how patient you are.
