If what you're after is IQ, you won't notice the 5D being much of an upgrade from the 60D in ISO noise and sharpness, you'd have to get to the 5d Mark ii to notice an improvement. The 18 megapixel APS-C sensor performs as well as the 5Dc's sensor in most conditions, often better. The 60D has much lower high ISO noise in spite of being a crop, though the 5Dc has a bit more sharpness.
Full frame does not automatically mean better IQ, the 5Dc is a pretty old camera with a pretty old sensor. If what you're after is full frame DOF though, go for it.

I have a 5D and a 5D2.

I thought of replacing the 5D with the 60D as I wanted some of the upgraded features (including video) for my backup. So I bought the 60D.

I would be exaggerating if I said the difference was night and day but, suffice it to say, I returned the 60D. I am still happy with the 5D as my backup. It was not a hard decision at all. The 5D is an amazing camera. Still.

To each his own.

I still think that the OP hasn't experienced dust bunnies on their sensor with the 5d mk 1... It's a huge factor when shooting with a camera that doesn't have auto sensor cleaning. This was implemented in all of canon's cameras after the 5d mark I.

as to the other posters, you guys probably haven't tried magic lantern to really appreciate the menu system.

Depend on what you shoot. I mainly shoot portraits and in last 7-8 yrs owning dSLRs I have only cleaned my sensor once. Never seen any dust but then I am shooting mainly at f2.8.

I used to shoot birds where I would be at f8 but even then it was not more than 1 min to clean some dust spots in the sky. Now if you landscape guy I can understand.

i mainly shoot portraits and want that FF look that my 60D isn't doing for me. I'm happy with the 60D, but i have been doing more portrait work lately and its time to go FF.

I'm still torn whether to spend the extra cash and just go 5d2 or get the 5d now.

In that case 5d is good enough.

I have a 7d and got my classic last year. The classic will take better portrait shots 95% of the time. The 5d and any prime is just amazing.

Imho, save the $ get the 5d and a 50mm 1.4 and some bandaids for your jaw hitting the floor. The 'next' 6d or whatever it is aparently will be announced around December.

You're crazy.

In terms of IQ, the 5D and 5D2 are very, very similar. They're both hands down better than the 60D.

Take a look at these. (comparing to 7D, but almost the sensor as the 60D).

The IQ is about the same, if anything the crop camera is better. The important difference is depth of field which matters for portraits.

I'd agree. The 5D mark ii is a clear upgrade from the 60D, but it's about to be replaced with the 6D soon.

high ISO on 7d looked better than 5dc when I did some tests a while back but after using I just don't like 1.6x crop any more. This is for portraits stuff that I shoot. Temaspeed has all those test shots and I agree they good but I would take 5dc with a nice prime over 7d anytime if shooting portraits even with crappy outer AF points of 5d.
