Hi all, just a quick question. When processing my files in DPP the 7d and 10d normally look good in standard picture style. If I select files from a 1ds Mark I in standard they look way overcooked. Is this the usual with 1ds files. I know it is old but so is the 10d and they behave differently. Thanks

I don't have any of the cameras you are shooting with, so can only throw out general "stuff"...

Are you shooting Raw with all three cameras?

Are you using the Standard Picture Style with all three cameras?

I can imagine that the older cameras would vary in how the pics are rendered, I guess that you just need to find an acceptable "starting point", depending on the camera...

This doesn't directly answer your question, but I remember when the Picture Styles were first introduced. Canon created them in answer to the fact that Nikon jpg rendering was more saturated and contrastier than Canon's because originally Canon thought that DSLR owners would be likely to want to do some post-processing themselves and for this reason the jpgs were more moderately rendered. It turned out they were wrong and Nikon's "jazzed-up" processing was popular. So Standard P.S. became the new default. However, in its press release at the time Canon stated that Neutral P.S. was retained as a processing version that was close to what had been the normal Canon "look" until then. So how about using Neutral (or Faithful) with the 1Ds and then boosting saturation and contrast in DPP until you find the combination you like.

Thanks all. I shoot all raw. The 10d and 1ds were before picture styles so can't be selected in camera. The nuetral does seem like a better starting point than standard for the 1ds files, the 10d files seem to be similar to the 7d in dpp. Of course in lightroom the picture styles are not relevant. Thanks again
