I am new to macro and I picked up the Kenko tubes - 12mm, 20 mm, and 36 mm. I've been playing with the 36mm mostly.

Out of curiosity, for those of you using these tubes, which one do you use most often, and if you stack, which combo of tubes are in your stack?

I guess the most common response will be "it depends on your subject". But as a new user, is there a "most common" tube you use or most common stack you use?

hey... thanks!

In most cases I think it would be either the 36mm tube by itself or all of them. The only time I've used the 12mm tube by itself is when I was playing with wide angle lenses where that is the only one you can use without the focus being impossibly close to the front of the lens.

It depends on the subject, lens, ambient light and whether I'm using a tripod or going hand-held. Like LordV, I usually use the 36, but occasionally stack all of them. In this shot, I stuck the 36 on a f/100-400L and shot @ 400mm with bright overhead sun. I was actually out birding, but stumbled across this bee and well... I always carry my tubes in a belt pouch (external link) so...

Thanks. Both of those responses were very interesting. I didnt realize that about the 12mm wide angle and I also never thought about using the tubes with non-macro lenses!
