I am getting this weird banding issue after editing it in lightroom 4.1 . If I switch back to develop it disappears but if I do anything else it comes back.

This is my first time using my 5D MII so that might be a cause

Any ideas?

That looks like some kind of posterization, but I don't know what might have caused it.

Some Canon stuff and a little bit of Yongnuo.

What is the original file type raw or jpg? If you recreate the preview does it go away?

Is this after export? If so what do you have the jpeg quality setting at?

Original file type is CR2. This is before export.

So this is only in the Library preview (Develop uses a different preview from the ACR cache). Have you tried deleting your preview folders and re-rendering them?
What are exports like? That, after all, is the bottom line that really matters.

well the export gives you the above image. I am thinking it is a problem with my new (to me) 5dii

in case someone wants to take a look at an untouched raw and see if they can figure what the problem is

Just a wild guess, but some kind of moiré pattern, perhaps? Your whole image has a sort of raster pattern to it.

The circular "banding" is likely moiré, as pointed out by Rimmer - depending on your zoom level, the "raster" looking pattern in the raw you posted, and the 100% crop posted above by Rimmer, is causing the moiré to appear in the preview.

I have no idea what is causing the faulty data in the raw file - I opened it in several different raw converters and they all displayed the linear pattern. Are you using wireless triggers on your strobes? I remember using some cheap radio triggers with my 5D classic and it caused a funky artifact pattern to embed itself in my images - it only affected the top of the image, maybe 10 rows of pixels, not the whole image.

Maybe a faulty card? Reformat in camera and try shooting some more images and see if the pattern appears, or use another card. Did you buy the 5DII used? I shoot with a 5DII that I have had for a few years, I bought it new and I have not had this issue. Try shooting outside, with plenty of natural light and see if you get the same artifacts - it may be time to send the camera to Canon.

Strange.

Might be a problem with the 5D2 board:

Well it is definitely the camera. Looks like I got ripped off. It isn't there or if it is it is very faint in the large Jpg output but in raw it shows up big time.

if it is the board anyone know what the fix will cost?

I don't have the slightest idea of a "fix", but the odd thing is that I see the horizontal lines that show in Rimmer's shot, in Lightroom, Camera Raw and DPP, not the circular ones that the OP shows...strange.

THe circular pattern is moiré in the scaled preview caused by the linear pattern in the image.

I also get these when I print anything via Lightroom, if I export to photoshop and print the image I don't get the lines.

I thought it was something I was doing wrong..
