This, as you see is a lion :). However, since I focussed it incorrectly, there are spots where the cage shows. Is there a easy way of fixing this without cloning?

Selective Dodge & Burn will help, but might not make it perfect. I know that I wouldn't go through so much trouble. Next time I'd stick the lens right up to the fence.

But if you want to give it a try:

I doesn't look like you incorrectly focused at all. What's infront of your subject will just about always show up in some degree of annoyance.

This isnt that hard to fix , but it is fidely and will take time , no one PS tool will do it for you,, why say without cloning ,, for me its intricate cloning as the main weapon as you have plenty of good source points , then masking with color adjustments etcs .

This was taken in Dallas zoo. Low light with my 75-300 III lens. While in AF, lens kept on hunting, so I had to shift to manual focus. Unfortunately, I could not move in front of the cage to get this shot.

Same happened for this tiger. See the green shade on the right. This was shot from between two green bamboo(?) poles which makes up the cage. The green shade looks like an OOF bamboo pole.:(
