I have a canon 40D that now has the ERR 99 message show up. The camera will fire the shutter half way and then lock up. When I turn it off and then back on, the shutter will continue it's cycle.

I'm not interested in fixing the camera as it'll cost 3/4 of what the camera is actually worth when functioning.

My question is this, is the body worth anything as is?

Have a look on the popular auction site for completed listings of faulty Canon 40ds... you'll possibly be surprised how much they're still worth when not fully functional!

Have you thought about replacement with another Canon? If so you could use it for the trade on the Canon Loyalty Program. That will get you 20% off a refurbished body. Most people describe what they get as very near new, if not new. My 60D had about 60 clicks on it and bottom line on the body was $640.
