The 6D is no upgrade for 5DII owners.

Yes, I don't understand how some people are calling the 6D an upgraded 5D Mk II. I think the 6D is an entirely new "crossover" category of stripped down budget Full Frame.

New question! How long will the battery last with Wi-Fi and GPS on? My guess is its going to drain your battery pretty heavily...

Here in the UK, the price difference is set to be about £600 apparently (at launch) between the 6d (~£1800) and the 5d3 (~£2400)... For those not quite sure about the 6d doing it for them, but have investment in Canon gear already, I can see the £600 being easily justified especially considering the hassle of swapping systems, and the better camera you're getting as a result. The 6d isn't being sold as a pro camera, it's very much an enthusiasts full frame body imho.

The problem comes for those with crop bodies thinking about making the move up to full frame, but not wanting to spend the full amount on a 5d3... at this point the D600 could look appealing as an alternative as new lenses will likely be on the cards anyway with the switch; however, it's another £200 on top of the 6d over here (obviously these prices are likely to change in the coming months anwyay), which is only £400 off the 5d3, etc, etc. The stupid thing is you can pickup a D800 for £2100 and the D600 is currently £1955. The prices need to settle over the coming weeks and months to really understand what you're getting for your money in comparison to both camera's bigger brothers.

It's a tough one, and I can see the argument from both sides.... I think the 6d will have its place, and I think it will sell reasonably well. There's always something bigger and better, it just depends how much money you've got to throw at it I guess!

The new super budget FF camera = 5DII haha. Cmon' $1200 5D2's I need ya baby cmon drop in price :)

I am super happy with the 5D3. It's the camera I always wanted to have, and IMHO the camera the 5D2 should have been.

That said, I would have no reservations shooting weddings with a 5D2 and the 6D. If the IQ improvements are there, then it's a nice option for folks who can't afford the higher-end cameras but still want to go FF.

As for the D600, it has 9 cross type points bunched up in the center. Still, that's better than just having 1. 1/4000 max shutter speed is puzzling to me. Again, I am assuming the IQ is going to be solid.

Both of them have 1/4000 shutters, the D600 actually has a better flash sync at 1/200 instead of 1/180 on the 6D

Quoted from dpreview " To distinguish it from the more expensive 5D Mark III, the 6D features a simpler, 11-point AF system with a single cross-type focus sensor"

WTF Canon!! Seriously!?!?!?

vmadvmadvmadvmadvmad

Really? That weird. Even my aging 60D has all cross type focus points. Sounds like their goal was to put a full frame sensor in a cheaper body without too much regard for the other specs. It also a much smaller body. No MA? What's the body made of? Is a FF sensor by itself enough to entice users from a 7D to it? How is it superior to a 5D Mark II?

Wrong, 6D lacks a built in flash

http://www.dpreview.com …i-capable-full-frame-dslr (external link)

look at the pentaprism, No built in flash here, Thus no flash commander...

Ohh, several sites have misinformation on it then. :o

Looks like a slightly souped up 5D2 at a much cheaper price point than the 5D3.

I'm going to have to assume that the IQ will be better than the 5D2. The AF arrangement isn't a departure from the 5D2 at all. 1 crosstype AF point. Everything else also seems to be on the level with the 5D2. I suppose at this point, there is ZERO reason to buy a 5D2 even used.

I guess the phrase "You get what you paid for" remains true. :)

Isn't this what was to be expected, a cheap full frame to replace the 5D Mark II? Exactly what we've got so I'm not disappointed or outraged.
The AF is a definite improvement from the 5D Mark II with it's low light sensitivity of EV -3 compared to the 5D2's -0.5 and there are two more AF points. It is not far behind the D600 in AF capability considering it's better low light performance and that the D600 only has cross-types in the centre. I don't see why everyone is so upset, were you guys really expecting a pro autofocus system in a budget full frame?

Well yes of course that was the goal, this is a budget full frame the savings had to come from some where, if you don't like that then you need the 5D Mark III.

6D Does have MA, and a Hybrid Magnesium Body with a Polymer Top Plate (needed for the GPS and WiFi)

I read that the official specs on the 6D has 1/8000. Correct me if I am wrong. And no, I never go to DPreview if I want accurate information.

To me this is a camera matched to what I shoot, alot of low light. I can't afford the 5D3 but this camera has AF down to -3EV and I'm guessing at least matching the 5D3 high iso capability. Just these two reasons alone combined with in camera HDR makes it very appealing to me, and the dedicated video switch like my 7D has helps out alot. I was a 60D owner and really loved that camera so I could definitely see the 6D in my hands as a second FF camera body for me. I would use it for portraits, low light indoor family stuff and keep my 7D for the outdoor kids running around / sports camera.

Perfect match. Now the decision is 6D vs. used 5D2. I see the 6D as a great camera honestly. I shoot center point AF 60% of the time on my 7D and on my old 60D about 90% of the time.

Heres some sample images..

http://web.canon.jp/imaging/eosd/samples/eos6d/ (external link)

The IQ looks very good to me.. Image 5 and 6 definitely have a nice look to them, quite a bit of detail and there seems to be something nice and "contrasty" about them..

I wish images 7 and 8 were up

Of course they're jpegs for one, Also Canon's test images tend to not be the best around, But to my eyes the image quality at least looks to be top notch

Yeah, some people expect the 1DX for $1000. ;)

Does 1/4000 and 1/180 really make it such a big deal? That's what the 5III is there for.
I would get a 6D, rather than a second 5II

The built in wifi and GPS really piss me off. They couldn't have added this to the 5DIII a few months ago. A camera that costs nearly twice as much!!!

But for the price I think its a reasonable camera, I was expecting them to come in around $2500-$2800 with this, which would have been a complete waste.
