I read that the official specs on the 6D has 1/8000. Correct me if I am wrong. And no, I never go to DPreview if I want accurate information.

From Canon themselves good enough?

Looks like a slightly souped up 5D2 at a much cheaper price point than the 5D3.

I'm going to have to assume that the IQ will be better than the 5D2. The AF arrangement isn't a departure from the 5D2 at all. 1 crosstype AF point. Everything else also seems to be on the level with the 5D2. I suppose at this point, there is ZERO reason to buy a 5D2 even used.

I guess the phrase "You get what you paid for" remains true. :)

I don't consider the 6D to be a "Souped Up" 5D Mk II.

There are at least 5 reasons to to choose a 5D Mk II over a 6D .............. https://photography-on-the.net …?p=15002488&postcount=181

1) Larger Viewfinder coverage (98%)
2) Faster max Shutter Speed (1/8000)
3) Faster Flash Sync (1/200)
4) Compact Flash
5) Cheaper ($1500 used)

Not impressed , i can live without the GPS / Touch screen and Wifi and have a better AF and a 100% VF coverage .

I agree. This wireless and touch screen stuff is like adding video to DSLR's. Seems like Canon is moving away from the actual still photography functionality and adding a bunch of bells and whistles. Faster shutter speeds and better focusing and maybe higher megapixel count might have made it comparable to the D800. Maybe when the 6D Mark II comes out they'll catch up to Nikon.

this camera has AF down to -3EV and I'm guessing at least matching the 5D3 high iso capability.

Nice. That's better than the already great 5D3, 1DX and anything Nikon has to offer. Of course we don't know how it will actually perform out in the field.

Does 1/4000 and 1/180 really make it such a big deal? That's what the 5III is there for.

1/180 does for me... I mean come on, my 450D is better in that regard.

Exactly, it's mean to be the Rebel FF, and as a Rebel FF is excellent, it's a slight improvement on the 5D Mark II and significantly cheaper, what's not to love about that?

no, 6D is worse than Rebel, t4i has better specs

- 9 point AF, all sensors cross type
- Phase detection AF from imaging sensor for Live View and Video
- articulating multi-touch screen
- pop-up Flash commander
- 5 fps
- 1/200 sync speed

Another thought:

Seems Canon is making a product line for individual genres of photography.
1Dx = Pro sports
5D MkIII = "ideal for shooting weddings"*
6D = "Perfect for travel and nature photography"*

The built in wifi and GPS really piss me off. They couldn't have added this to the 5DIII a few months ago. A camera that costs nearly twice as much!!!

Theres a reason for that, the 5D3 has a full magnesium body, its been stated before that makes it very difficult to integrate the wifi/gps antennas into the body because the body itself is basically preventing them from working, Canon notes that this is why the new 6D has a polycarbonate top plate

Yeah, some people expect the 1DX for $1000. ;)

I think what most of us wanted/expected was AF on the same level as the Rebels or the 60D, ie, a 9 point all-cross type would have been fine with most of us, This is not unreasonable, Given that those cameras retail for a LOT less money and are "lower" in the food chain... Instead we get a modification of the 5DII's 9-point system with an additional 2 points in it and a super sensitive center point.. which is great, but not really what we had in mind.. at least on paper... in practice it could turn out to be a really good AF system, So im reserving my judgement on it in practice

What I am saying however is on paper im disappointed... "Entry level full frame" is still a $2100 camera that cant match up in some ways with an $1100 camera...some things are reasonable, ie the advance rate, others are a bit less so...

That said, Lets be fair here, Nikon also gave their camera the same AF as a lower level model, And I'm curious to see how it plays out, as I was very impressed at how the 60D's 9-point AF compared to the D7000's 39 point in the real world, the difference here is that the 60D DOES have a fully cross-type system and the 6D does NOT

The measurements and weight seem similar to the 60D Also no indication whether its a polycarbonate body or a mag body. I agree with some others, At first blush, it doesn't seem a significant upgrade from the 5D II. As a result, It does beg the question. Will this new camera replace the 5D II in the lineup?

The 5D3 replaces the 5D2.

I have two camera bodies capable of 1/8000 s. I wonder if I, during the eight years combined I've had them, have shot more than about two images at shorter times than 1/4000 s.

Travel yes, Nature? Ehhhh

I'd say the best Nature cam out there, From anyone, is the 7D, Period, Plenty of Nature shooters will probubly back me up on that one ;)

Well if you're talking shooting birds and stuff that is, Landscapes, yes the 6D is probubly better
