no, 6D is worse than Rebel, t4i has better specs

- 9 point AF, all sensors cross type

They could have gone with a rebels 9 point crosstype AF system, but decided to go with a 1 crosstype with -3 EV sensitivity! A design choice some people might find more useful, and makes it easier to take advantage of the ISO performance.

- Phase detection AF from imaging sensor for Live View and Video

What, why would they leave this feature out? It's not hard to implement is just a software feature. The rebels do it by flipping the mirror down quickly during live view.

It's strange that Adorama was blowing out the 5D3 for $2750 over the weekend instead of lowering the price on the 5D2, in light of this introduction.

1/180 does for me... I mean come on, my 450D is better in that regard.

The issue is the velocity of the shutter curtains across the sensor. High-end cameras like the 1D have professional-grade shutters with high-velocity curtains. Consumer-level camera have consumer-grade shutters with lower velocity curtains.

On the 450D, those low velocity curtains only have to traverse 15mm. On the 6D, the low velocity curtains have to traverse 24mm. Thus, it takes them more time and produces a lower sync speed.

Travel yes, Nature? Ehhhh

I'd say the best Nature cam out there, From anyone, is the 7D, Period, Plenty of Nature shooters will probubly back me up on that one ;)

Well if you're talking shooting birds and stuff that is, Landscapes, yes the 6D is probubly better

Yeah the blue channel noise at ISO 100 doesn't exactly inspire confidence on landscape shots.

They never should've gone over 15mp for the APS-C.

They did lower the price of the 5D2 as well.

When you follow the link from cpw (external link) you get a price of $1829, which is lower than everyone else.

Oddly, when you search on Adorama directly for the 5D Mark II, you get a different price, $1999.

Disagree, I find the absurd pixel density helpful a lot of the time ;)

But i do shoot everything with it.. I cant afford two cameras ;) I just make it work..

Hmm. 'Way back when the 5D was first announced, the senior Canon Europe official stated publically that Canon's long-term goal was to have a full range of 24x36mm cameras. I suspect they're still marching toward that goal.

Just as it was nearly 10 years ago that the senior Canon Africa official stated that Canon's long-term goal was to unify the 1-series into a single camera. It took them nearly 10 years to make that happen.

The specs on the camera certainly are puzzling however...

With the size it looks like a pretty good option for a traveling photographer, and with the slightly less MP sensor, and on-paper ISO capabilities, it may indeed deliver some splendid results.

If it were being launched in a vacume if would likely be more favorably viewed that it is at the moment. But when you have the D600 option at the same price, a used 5D2 that is arguably better in several ways for around $1,500 used (maybe even approaching that price new if we keep our eyes open in the coming weeks for outgoing stock), and the 5D3 routinely going on sale for around $2,800, it is kind of in a no man's land.

However IQ in practice when in the hands of real photographers will deliver final judgement on this odd camera.

I have two camera bodies capable of 1/8000 s. I wonder if I, during the eight years combined I've had them, have shot more than about two images at shorter times than 1/4000 s.

Primes wide open outdoors during the day.

7D is very capable at landscapes, so much so that I don't think it's worth it for 7D users to get a second 6D body, see:

Heres some sample images..

http://web.canon.jp/imaging/eosd/samples/eos6d/ (external link)

The IQ looks very good to me.. Image 5 and 6 definitely have a nice look to them, quite a bit of detail and there seems to be something nice and "contrasty" about them..

I wish images 7 and 8 were up

Of course they're jpegs for one, Also Canon's test images tend to not be the best around, But to my eyes the image quality at least looks to be top notch

The only images available are ISo100. Oh good  that means they are still running noise reduction on the others....

out of 54,000 photos I've taken only 28 are at above 1/4000.

I think I'd just have to stop down if I ran into that issue.

I'm very pleased that Canon had the sense to include AF microadjustment. Any serious professional camera needs to have this feature.

It's not a professional camera, it's a consumer FF. You may call it professional if it makes you feel better though.
