A few from this weekend's ALMS series at VIR. I expect the cars will look familiar, only the course has changed.

1. Recovering from a force off at turn 11. The driver did a great job avoiding the fence. Then getting the car turned around and back on the track.
And this was during morning warm-up/practice!

They could use some work in post to give more contrast and saturation.

Image 5 is out of focus so for me it would go in the recycle bin. 2 and 3 are the best of the bunch you've posted.

Definitely need some post editing. I looked at your whole gallary and you got some pretty good shots they just need editing.

I hope you don't mind me doing this, but I did a VERY quick edit in iPhoto, took about 20 seconds, and this is how it turned out. What do you think?

I knew the Lola was OOF because I was focusing on the Patron Lotus at the time.
Any tip for getting both cars sharp under these conditions?

Thanks, I haven't had time for post work or knowing what it would take to improve them. I'll make a second pass with some post.

If both cars are moving at different speeds then it is physically impossible unless you use a very high shutter speed. You may have been focusing on the Ferrari however it still looks OoF as well.

It's a moot point... the photo was taken with autoexposure setting. Camera was off on its own and user was a passenger.

Yes, I tend to shot aperture priority at races. You recommend full manual on every shot? I am a tad slow working the controls relative to just trying to get the shots. If exposure is going to vary from a lighter car to a darker one ...

Same here.
I decide what shutter speed I want to shoot at, often metering off the track surface (which is often close enough to 18% grey). Then I do a few test shots of dark and light cars and look at the histogram to find a compromise setting something that works best for all cases.
