I'm looking to purchase a 5DC and this one has caught my eye on my local Craigslist. He's the original owner and did let me know about a scratch on the rear of the camera near the menu button. I asked for photos and he sent me these using a point and shoot.

I'm thinking that the camera has been dropped which to me isn't a big deal as long as nothing is broken. But I'm not too sure after seeing the photos. It's a bit of trek for me to see the camera in person so I try to vet out as much info as possible by photos.

Anyway, what do you think? Asking price is $630.

This is the one that worries me a bit. Look at the right side of the prism.

Its a very durable camera and for that price I'd be hard not to pass it up but that's just me.

The scratch on the side of the prism doesn't look too bad more of a wear but at that angle of a picture with the blinding P&S flash right on it might emphasize it more than what it really is. But if your really worried about it ask for more detail about it and pictures. The backside doesn't look bad for being a scratch, I have some scratches like that on the bottom of my camera and works fine.

If the battery grip comes with it for that price then I would say yes! Even without the battery grip for that price I would get it. The best way would be to see in person.

Thing is it could die tomorrow or years from now hard to know.

You can find 5dc for 700$ for a piece of mind without that crack in the prism honestly. Especially with the announcement of the 6D the prices may take another notch down if you can wait.

Thanks. I guess it's all speculation until I see it in person and do some testing. I haven't bought a used camera since my old Mamiya RB67 20 years ago. Like the 5DC it was a workhorse. I'll fire off those questions to the owner and see what he says.

Yea the price for the body only is $630 and the grip is $85. If I go for it, I'll try to deal for both of course.

I bought my 5D 5 months ago on FM in excellent condition with NO signs of abuse or misuse. It came with battery in good condition, software, charger, Canon grip, all for $700 to my door. I'm quite certain that with the current state of the market, you should be able to pick one up in similar condition for $650 or less if you look around a bit. For the condition of the one you are looking at, first of all I would pass on it altogether but if I felt compelled to purchase it, I would offer him not a penny over $600 for the body and grip.

Thanks ctrout. I was thinking the same thing. I'm trying to keep any emotion out of it. I don't need it. I'd like it but I can wait for the best deal in the best condition.

Only a month ago I was selling mine without any damage with the RRS L bracket for $750. Had to keep it and sell 5dmk3 as I needed money.

Sorry .. but it would be to me. If you really want a 5Dc there are plenty out there, so bide your time and wait for the right one to come along

Yah I agree. I ended up passing on it and picked up a different one the other day!

Hmm...looks good, but I am pretty picky that I want a camera with no scuffs or scratch. That's just me, but then this is one to buy since it's full-frame. Or you can wait for the 6D.

With the kinds of deals you can find now, I'd pass on this one.
