Mdjak's first image is of the water sluth at Croton Dam. He was shooting down on it from the bridge and it is a segment of the water runoff, I can see why he framed it that way. If you look in the first image you can see where he was shooting. I have taken a very similar image.
Although, I would have liked to see it with a longer shutter speed.

The second image is of one of my favorite places to shoot. I would not mind seeing this image with a lower exposure. I love that spot!

BTW: If you decide to follow Omar's advice, think of me when you are getting rid of your stuff. ;)

just a few of my thoughts...

P.S.
You rode your bike up there? That is pretty impressive, I get tired driving to the spot. :D:

Next time, take the lower entrance (to the Park proper) and take the shot looking up. You can also avoid the climb up the hill on your bike. I agree w/ pbelarge about Croton Dam Park - lots of opportunities!

Personally, I've never come up with satisfactory composition of the sluice taken from the top of the dam - it's alluring but difficult to photograph - I have taken shots just like your second shot but it just is not as interesting once you leave the site - it's more of a sight & sound (like a movie) kind of setting than a still photo. On top of the dam, I'm more drawn to the road that runs through it, but that's just me.

Kevan and pbelarge, fellow Westchester photographers, let's meet up someday. Kevan, I may even have seen you at the Harlem Wizards at Greeley last winter but did not realize then that you were here on this forum. pbelarge, thank you for your comment over at the 16-35mm lens sample archive thread.
