does anyone have an idea as to what it might be? it's about an inch long
looks strange with those golden spikes

I am not 100% sure what it is, but it will more than likely be on this page I searched for using Google Image...
It appears to be a Buckeye, but I can't really tell, there are a few others that look really similar, so it may also be an Orange banded Heliconia butterfly... Who knows?

I do know one thing, that is a strange looking find you have there, I have not seen anything like that before, pretty different.
