Took my son to the local splash pad this morning (too cold to play in the water, but a fast and easy way to make big puddles!)...

I spent some time taking photos of his reflection in the puddles, and this is one of the ones I liked the best. Its a different sort of shot, and its got some depth to it. Its not perfect of course but what do you think of it? I used LR3 to turn it black and white, but didn't use a preset - just used a saturation slider, which to my surprise left the leaves in color. Neat effect I think... sorta? I dunno....

If you turned it into black and white, how come the leaves are colored? I'm not a fan of pictures of things reflected in puddles; beginning photographers sometimes go through a fascination with this effect and correctly move on. However, I think this one has a nice abstract quality. Without those colored leaves, that is.

I like it, but I find the leaves to be very distracting, and pull my eye away from the subject. Fix the leaves, and I think you have a winner.

If steroids are illegal for athletes, should PS be illegal for models?

I don't actually *know* why the leaves retained their color when I de-saturated it in LR3 - lol. I moved the slider backwards, and all the color was gone except for the leaves! I've just registered for a course in photoshop at the college, which starts this evening, so hopefully I'll learn some decent post processing skills!!

I'll see if I can figure out how to remove the coloring of the leaves and see how it looks. A lot of my friends liked the shot as is (though I'm still not sure if I love it or hate it!). And two people told me it was creepy - especially since the photo features a child. Someone suggested this would be better with a soldier in uniform from a war or something -- but, unfortunately, I'm limited in who I can get to model for me. :D

I like the creepiness of it...
