I'll wait until I test a copy myself, but this is what I mean by focus consistency. I don't expect an equal hit rate to the 35L, but it needs to be pretty dam close.

The 35L allows me to shoot and not worry about the lens doing it's part. More sharpness wide open will not be an acceptable tradeoff for that piece of mind. I'm remaining optimistic until I get a copy in my hands.....

From the few hundred frames I shot I would say close enough and I was in tough lighting conditions where at times adequate contrast dictated to point of focus.

See that's the point I wasn't sure about as I couldn't test the lens extensively. I wouldn't mind that if that turns out to be the case.

Fair comment. But I was taking head shot of my friend @ the shop and his face fills up ~50% of the frame.

I used single SPOT centre point and still miss. MA did made it better but I just don't have confident with it that it will nail focus @ various distance and lighting.

I really want to buy it as I have a bday party to attend this saturaday...:(

I hear you buddy, yea it's really hard to judge unless you've spent decent amount of time with it...but so far I found it to be quite accurate up to 3/4 body shots with background (not saying beyond that it misses just haven't really tested) wide open both indoors and out if that helps...

No I owned the 35l a few years ago. I also rented a copy. Results at f1.4 -- f2 were soft, unusable to me unless I had no choice. I don't think anyone who has used both lenses will dispute that the sigma is better at least until f2.

and I think where sigma really shines over the 35L is when you start to move way from the centre of the frame in terms of sharpness and also when stopped down specular highlight blur just looks smoother and nicer

Looks amazing, very sharp.
Mine also needs MA (+13), but focusses fast and accurate, almost no oof shots, even at 1.4.
I would give it a try. You can still return it to the store, should you really encounter some focussing problems.

Still loving this lens... Noticed this Kickstarter project yesterday for weather sealing EF mount lens and was wondering if it would work with the S35. Any thoughts?

rear element of the s35 is pretty exposed...so not sure if it will work, reading it towards bottom of page it does say support 3rd party lenses tho as long as there is thick enough mounting surface

in saying that it will only provide sealing at lens mount no? lens itself technically still won't be sealed...but i guess having some is better than none particularly at lens mount...
