A perfect out the box lens for one person might not be perfect on another body. I've had similar luck with Canon 50mm lenses. I had a HORRIBLE Canon 24mm f/1.4 (mark I) way back in the day that I had to return. I had a terrible Tamron 28-75mm that was my first non-kit lens and I simply thought the fog over everything was a steeper learning curve. I think that if my second behaves exactly the same then I will order the dock. I don't want to give up on such a sharp lens.....when it works. From what I gather it is a lot sharper than the Canon 35mm L so I don't want to go backwards after experiencing it at its best...when it wanted to perform.
