Yeah I think the majority are perfect out the box, I was in the minority. I think its to do with the bodies too but I could be wrong. A perfect out the box lens for one person might not be perfect on another body. I've had similar luck with Canon 50mm lenses. I'm just about to sell the 50 1.4 as I can't get it to be consistent even with MA

It can happen! I had a HORRIBLE Canon 24mm f/1.4 (mark I) way back in the day that I had to return. I had a terrible Tamron 28-75mm that was my first non-kit lens and I simply thought the fog over everything was a steeper learning curve. I had a 17-70mm Sigma once upon a time started off great but the zoom kept sliding in and out without a care in the world.

i returned 2 copies to amazon but kept the 3rd one while i ordered sigma dock.
today i went out and got the values for MFA with dot tune method for 0.3m 0.4m 0.6m and infinity

now i gonna put them in my lens using sigma dock station.
best solution is the dock imo

I agree, my lens is flawless now

There is hope for me yet then!!! I have read in other forums that for some people by the 3rd the lens becomes a keeper. I hope that Amazon UK are patient if the second is a dud as well....

I see your logic. I think that if my second behaves exactly the same then I will order the dock. I don't want to give up on such a sharp lens.....when it works. From what I gather it is a lot sharper than the Canon 35mm L so I don't want to go backwards after experiencing it at its best...when it wanted to perform.

I'm having one more go using magic lantern dot tune today - if I'm still not happy, mines going back.

I was using dot tune yesterday and at 0.4, same focus, same test repeated 5 times I got -3, -7, - 12, +2, -3 I also still cannot get it to focus at distance wide open, using mirror lock up, on a tripod with 10 sec timer.

Anyone owns a Sigma USB Dock that lives in MINNESOTA? I just bought Sigma 35, and I think i need minor calibration of the lens. I'm willing to pay to get this done so you can offset some cost that you paid for the dock.

I figure it's one of those that you only need to use once, unless you plan to own more sigma lenses in the future.

Here's a quick video of the problem.

The video should be available in 15 minutes. It's still uploading.

Are you testing outside in bright light? Do you have a good contrasting target? and are you making sure the sensor is square to the target?
