Sigma MTF chart looks amazing.

it's because the lines are in color.

I think I'm going to get this lens. Chart looks good. Still want to see some solid sample images though.

I'll wait for some sample shots and real world tests of the af system. I never had an issues with the IQ of my Sigma 30, but the focus consistency was problematic at times. I thought the Sigma 30's af was acceptable until I started using the 35L, only then did I realize how much better the Canon was in that regard.

If the pre-order price is $899, the street price will probably drop ~$100 or more over the next few months. If it's that good, I could sell my 35L, buy the Sigma AND a 1.4 tc III which would be nice. So I'm really pulling for Sigma on this one but I won't get my hopes up. :D

I'm about to click the button on the Pre-Order with Adorama, but does anyone know if the USB calibration thingie is included? or will that be extra somewhere down the line? From what I'm seeing, it's something that would have to be ordered additionally in the future... early 2013...

My understanding was that it would be sold seperately in early 2013. Can't remember the exact price, but I have a feeling it wasn't prohibitive.

Hopefully it's just a regular USB cable and not some goofy connector.

If yer lucky you won't need the cord right? I mean how often do you need to update lens firmware?

It's looking like it will be a dock system.

This isn't just for firmware though. It's to offer user tuning of the AF system. The software will be free, but the USB dock will be sold separately.

It's not just about the firmware update, it's the ability to manually adjust your AF parameters for a given lens without having to ship it+your camera to Sigma every time

Is this something new that they're doing? Is this ability and equipment available for all Sigma lenses?

the new USB dock won't be compatible with existing Sigma lenses.
