What if your wife chose the first? You'd have to return it.

No plan is foolproof.

Can you tell which one is 30mm f1.4 and which one 35L.:D

QUOTED IMAGE
QUOTED IMAGE

Every one has different needs. To me faster aperture over IS unless supterteles where IS is really needed.

One on the right is the 35L, Because its framed a bit tighter...

I think the 35L is on the right as well, because it's sharper.

It also looks like the sigma on the left might be front focusing a hair, the text under Eneloop is sharper on it than Eneloop itself compared to the 35L

Dont get me wrong both look good im just pointing out stuff

But I'll bet because I said the right is the 35L, it's the other way around, and jokes on me.

Ha! I think there are quite a few of us, including me, who already have the lens on order... I doubt there will be any shortage of reviews..

I just registered on your forums just to blurt out my frustration regarding this situation

So does this mean that it will drive down the prices of the "big three" 35mm 1.4 lenses from Canon, Nikon and Sony? I was planning to buy the 35L today but this news came in. I wouldn't really justify the high cost of 35L, or other OEM 35mm 1.4 lenses for that matter, if this particular lens would perform even just marginally better in terms of sharpness and control of CA (regardless of whether the QC is still crapola or not). So what will be the difference considering the cheaper price?

And yes, I hate waiting. I wish I hadn't read this news actually.

I don't think this will have too much impact on the 35L price, but I guess time will tell. If anything, assuming this lens is top quality, it might impact the future markII 35L's price. But knowing Canon, I'm probably wrong. As for the difference, no one can answer that yet, since these lenses haven't been reviewed.

Hopefully if this lens is really stellar and plenty of people buy it, it will force Canon's hand.

Indeed. I think if Sigma can sort out their AF issues (or at least bandage them with the USB dock), then this might be the start of some true competition for Canon.

this lens will have little to no impact on the price of the 35L. A large majority of Canon shooters paying this kind of money for a lens will only buy Canon. Sigma also has a reputation that needs to be repaired before they can apply any kind of downward pressure on L glass.

I didn't have too many complaints with my Sigma purchase and I'd buy from them again, but dissatisfied customers are always the most vocal. Sigma has PR work to do and they know it, just look how many times some aspect of quality control has been mentioned in their latest press releases.

It might be a bad rap or it might be well deserved, but it means the price of this lens won't be $899 for long. If it's a great performer, we win at Sigma's expense. Again, I hope it outperforms the 35L in IQ and at least comes close in af performance maybe 9/10, I'd consider that reasonable for a 3rd party offering.
