35L's got onions too. Just cuz it got a red ring don't mean it's full-proof. It's like condoms ;D

hahahaha... yea but not to the degree of that Siggy! LOL

By all means it is a tremendous lens at $400 less than the Canon! I really was looking to unload the 35L and pocket some money but them onions make me cry

Heck, even the vaunted the 85L can get onion-y and octagon-y. I was working on a set of photos last night and noticed a shot I took with my 85L at f/2.8 and I could see distinct edges to the bokeh as well as some onion layers in spots. What has been seen cannot be unseen.

I dunno dude, you keep repeating about the onions, but I guess I just don't see it to the degree you're seeing it. If not for people on the internet forums pointing it out, I might never have even known "onion bokeh" existed.

IMO the bokeh is gorgeous, it's "L" sharp or better, CA is well controlled, performance and speed seem to push the 35L too, plus it's 400 smackers cheaper. In my world it sounds like a complete no-brainer. I just am not bothered by the 'onions' whatsoever. My condolences to you :D

And all you guys are lucky you even have a copy, nobody in my area has one yet. I'm still waiting to hear back from individual retailers about a copy.

The savings and the better control on CA got me! I did pocket the $400 and promptly used it on gifts for my family instead; I think the Sigma is still a winner in my eyes. Even though I still saw the onions, the sample photos from everyone still makes me wanna get the lens. Of course I'm a gear head and had the 35L (owned for a month and used on the last recent shoots) and returned it after I knew Sigma's 35 came out. Onions do tend to make your eyes water; but they are still delicious in the kitchen. haha *trying to be optimistic about onions*

Werd!^^

I had to google Onion bokeh to find out what all the hype was about. for the sake of discussion, can anyone come right out and say that they are seeing onions in the other 99% of the OOF areas/bokeh in certain shots aside from bokeh balls?

Pixel peeping too much could lead to Onion's disease a close cousin to Octagon disease ;)

Well, Decided to do a few test shots to see if the onions can be seen in all the bokeh and not just the highlighted bokeh balls. Indeed you can. This looks terrible and very well may be a deal breaker for me! ;)
