So, what's the point of the Canon 35mm f/2 IS again?

Image Stabilization for video in a 35mm perspective. That's really who would benefit from it. I wouldn't trade a full stop of exposure for that feature, but then again I don't really shoot things that require that.

Are you being serious?

Why do people find problems in everything? It is still a fast lens at f/2 with 4-stop IS. What is so bad about that? Sure cost could be less, but if it performs like an L optically then what is the problem? It may not be sealed, but 80% of people won't utilize that anyway I am sure, if not a higher percentage.

If you need f/1.4 to stop action, you won't buy it... Simple as that. For those who can deal with f/2 and shoot more low light, stationary subjects... It is perfect. Along with video use.

Why do people continue to believe if it is not useful to them that it is a terrible product? Get over yourselves.

Similar price, but one stop slower and without the build quality of L lenses or Sigma primes. And, when I'm shooting stationary subjects (i.e. most of the time) I use a tripod.

IS is good, but not at the same price as a better-built lens that's also a stop faster.

What happens if you're in a busy location or a museum?

That seems to be the common theme here and just about anywhere. People demands better things but won't pay up once the product is made available to the public. Somehow this thing called "inflation" doesn't apply to them either.

To add insult to injury, Japan has been in a deflationary state for 20 years, yet their products seem to become more and more expensive (even in yen). Just about anything (other than foreign purchased raw materials maybe) is cheaper. Salary/bonuses, and rent mainly, which greatly dictate the prices.

I'm sure there's a good reason for it, but after living here most of my adult life, I've always just told myself all the added cost evaporates in the form of useless company-funded English lessons and green tea upgrades for the office.
