Hello all! I'm brand new to POTN and this is my first time posting for some constructive criticism. I'd love to know what you guys think about this shot, and what I could do to make it a little better.

I took a trip up to Charlottesville, VA to visit an apple orchard, and here's a little something to show for it.

Nikon D700 | 50 1.8G

Welcome!

Did you do any post processing to this image? Personally, I'd increase the contrast and clarity, but it's not bad as is. The depth of field is quite shallow, but I like it.

You would do yourself a favor to read up on aperture and depth of field. There's no exif data attached to your image, but this looks like it was taken with something like an f/1.4 50mm prime wide open. The only parts that are in focus are the leaf on the camera-left apple and the tip of the subject's right index finger.

Welcome to POTN. Watermark is very small. Very nice bokeh back there on the sides. As said already, a bit more could stand to be in focus, like the majority of the apples. Please don't let the anti-Nikon crowd scare you aware from here, it's generally a friendly bunch...get it?

I like it! But then again, I visited the Carter Mountain Apple Orchard this past summer and took the exact same pic -- pose, bokeh & everything! :) I'm a Nikon user too. Welcome!

Thank you all for the feedback! I appreciate it.

I did a little bit of processing, mostly saturating the colors a bit.
I agree that looking at it now, I definitely wish more of the apples had been in focus.

And I was just getting used the the anti-Nikon crowd before I jumped ship to Canon :p
