Who really cares what you pay in the UK?

Congratulations, that has to be the dumbest thing I've ever read on this forum. Or any forum come to think of it

Is the 6D the only new camera for 2012 or will canon be introducing something else shortly?

Wasn't the 5D3 new earlier this year? And while the 1DX was announced almost this time last year it finally hit the shelves around July this year.

So I'd say the 6D is not the only new DSLR camera from Canon this year

When oh when can I get a 1Dx for $2k? Canon, you really screwed up on this!

There really seems to be an inordinate amount of butthurt about this 6D announcement. There are a lot of babies in this hobby, I think.

It's funny how many people I see claim that the 6D is a marketing blunder, then say "well, I guess I'll have to save up for a 5DIII". Don't you think that this is part of the marketing goal? I think a lot of people continually underestimate the marketing decisions that Canon makes. They don't have to be the most popular or well-liked. They have to make the most money. That is something that they are doing very well and stomping all over Nikon.

A really good point!
Maybe not the smartest thing in the long run. But then can you screw the customer base for awhile; and then be nice to them and they will/may forgive you!

After all they did just give me a FOC 7D upgrade! And I don't need to upgrade just now.

You know Ian, maybe he has a point. Obviously these multinationals don't give a toss about us in the UK as they all pull that £1=$1 crap on us; and we stupidly take it.

Maybe we will one day get a government with balls, who thinks about economics and bans this kind of Global Multinational Price Fixing! Certainly would help the balance of payments deficit and leave more money in the UK, to try and fund a financial recovery!

But on the other hand probably not; as one needs an IQ greater than 135 to comprehend that!

I think 1/8000 shutter is what they should have retained. The other downgrades are not really that important.
I wonder if it is possible to make the shutter faster with firmware

I don't know that Canon Japan have any control over what prices your UK subsibiary/importer sets for the products. It is a strange situation for sure but then there are other European countries let alone middle eastern countries who pay a LOT more than the UK does for photographic equipment

You might be interested in what the Nikon rep says about price differences. All sounds like garbage to me.

The last time I read so much Canon hate for a camera was when the 60d came out. We all know what a colossal failure that was.

I probably won't want to buy one myself, but I wouldn't be surprised if it sells very well.

There is also a rumour that the new Sony CEO was taken to hospital with a ruptured hernia he acquired pi**ing himself laughing at the spec of the new 6D! :p

Plus Points:-
- Remote tethered Wi Fi
- FF
- Very impressive point and shoot camera
- Fast SD Cards
- In Built HDR
- Massive boost to the value of all our 7D's

Negative Points:-
- Lightweight 2/3 Mag body
- undersized body
- Too small VF - should be 100%
- Pathetically specified AF system - should have been the 5DMk III's
- No back-2nd wheel
- No Mirrorless technology
- Far too expensive
- No 1080p 50 or 60 fps
- No continuous AF in movie mode
- Too expensive for what it is
- No MFA
- Marketing disaster will drive people to look at Nikon and then all the smart ones will do a complete re-evaluation and go Sony [especially all those with EFS lenses - no I'm definitely not advocating EFS compatibility on a FF]
- WIll scare customer base by the lack of groundbreaking technology on the Sensor/AF front.
- Should have had some wireless radio flash system built in [no I didn't say a built in Flash]
- Shutter life reduced to 100,000 from say the 7D's 150,000 - has the rest of the build quality dropped.
- the chief designer must have taken a retirement bung from Sony!

I just hope the moron in charge of this run away ship cans the 7D at Photokina - so I can sell mine for £2000 to fund my escape!

Anyone disagree look at the Sony A99 = $2,800 / 1.58 = £1772 + £325 [cheapest flight to New York] = £2,097. or a 6D for £2,000!

Being Serious this is so underwhelming it could shake Canons share price in 6 months time.
I was waiting for the new FF, but seriuosly for the money I'll stay with my 7D! until the 6D Mk 2 comes out or I'll go 5DmkIII.
No wonder they gave the 7D an upgrade - obviously the creative pot was empty!

So, you just figure that Canon should offer it with the same specs as the 5DIII at 2/3 the price. That would be truly brilliant.

Honestly, this is still better than my camera in every way, and still sounds better than a 5d Mk II, so I don't see what the fuss is. I want to see how it handles low-light photos and noise in general. Who knows, maybe this new sensor will be amazing. Its hard to know without speculating right now. I think they'd have a hit at about $200-300 cheaper, although that would probably get too close to the 5d Mk IIs market.

I wonder if this isn't possible through a firmware update considering what just happened with the 7D. They can sell it, hold out until sales slow, then release a new firmware opening up some hidden backdoors they have already engineered into it. hmmm.

Seems the 6D is more on the "sumer" side & the 5DII/III more on the "pro" side of the prosumer category of full frame.

The specs on the 6D seems fine for the average hobbiest looking for a full frame. Hopefully the IQ will be FF quality, and even high ISO close to the 5DIII. Not sure why they don't have a flash build in for this segment???

Fills a gap given the large price ticket the 5DIII commands. May also be a gateway drug to get people hooked on FF :)
