The Lancaster which came from Hamilton went tech the day before and sadly couldn't fly, so the fighters formed up together. These are from Gatineau the morning of Sunday's show.

Re the Lanc the # 4 engine wouldn't crank over. It could be turned by hand so it seemed to be a starter related issue. I watched them try several times to get it to crank but no go.

Thanks - it was the first time all weekend I had a chance to take some warbird shots and the Spitfire demo was really nice to see.

What matters is that they got it fixed on Sunday after the show and made it home on Sunday night. The old bird was a little stressed after flying down to Hamilton from Gatineau and back again on Saturday. It really is amazing how they make it all work with a lot of the original parts.

Randy I must have almost bumped into you. I moved to the area you were shooting from just as they started shutting them down. I had been behind it as they fired them up & waited (& hoped) for the last one to start.
I have wondered just how much of it engine wise might be original because that was my fathers trade back when it (from the info I've gathered) was in Greenwood. My father was aero engine on them & DC 3's while we were stationed there.

Did the Lanc not fly on Saturday? I swear I have pics of it when I was there getting soaked in the rain.

Yes it flew Sat, and I didn't get soaked thanks to the disposable rain poncho I've carried in my bag for the last 20 years.

It was the first thing I saw when the wife and self entered the show and I just had to get some shots! - we then proceeded to the spectator area and set up our chairs at the fence between two friendly photographers. One with a Canon FF + a rented 400mm lens, the other was shooting two Nikons, one mounted on a sophisticated tripod with a large lens, and a hand held with a big lens.
Made me feel pretty insignificant with my little hand held Canon T2i and the Tamron 18-270 lens !! LOL
As an RCAF brat too, I was fascinated by the sound of those Merlins being run up.
From the book (. . . Minarski's Lanc) serviceable Merlin engines were the hardest part of the restoration to obtain as the original engines were siezed from years of inactivity and improper storage.
In the 50's, we were at Rockcliffe, when 408 Photo Squadron flew Lancs, and 412 Transport Squadron flew North Stars, so the sound of multi Merlins brings back fond memories.

( ... apologies for jacking your thread Attila !)
