Not "doesnt need/wont use" but "leave out everything you can get away with". They know people would like a flash, but they figure they can still get enough sales just with the sensor. Im sure theyve done the math on it though.

BMW gets away with crappy leather/leatherette. Their customers would love better leather, but they would rather take the other BMW feature and name, and overlook the omissions.. all for a steep price. So BMW holds back on the leather quality to save cash, and charges a lot for the upgrade.

Canon knows people want the built in, but they will still pay for a camera without it, and then canon can sell speedlites at an even bigger profit margin. Im not saying its wrong, its business, but they arent stripping down models to do us a favor.

Poor analogy. I like BMW leather. Didn't wear like other luxury brands. Bmws financials are way up. So people are overlooking the items YOU deem as admissions and the steep price and crappy reliability to boot. We all know people buy BMW to show the size of their wallet, just like canon. Crappy under endowed high priced items with a lot of left out features to force you to upgrade.

Built-in GPS + WiFi > built in flash. The last time I've used a built-in flash is when I accidentally had the mode dial on the greenbox on my friend's 60D.

I like all the conspiracy theory about Canon "forcing" you to buy an external flash. Is canon also forcing you to buy L lenses because they purposely make them better? LoL, okay.

Lets not forget, no pop up flash = less nooks and crannies where water and dust can get into.

This would definitely be a great second or backup camera to my 5D3 and a dedicated wedding photobooth workhorse with the built in wifi. Cant wait to try it out

Ding, ding, ding. Give that poster an A+ for a cogent, rational, epiphany.

^ Makes sense since pro bodies i.e. Nikon Dx/ Canon 1D bodies never had pop up flashes. Weather sealing trumps awful and mostly useless pop-up flashes.

I'm glad Canon didn't include a pop-up flash on the 6D. I'm also glad theres no swivel screen. Although these features have their place in DSLRs (especially Rebels and prosumer bodies) I would appreciate less places where dust and moisture could get in and less parts to break off. One of the first things I noticed about the 7D is that the flash is a little loose feeling when its closed. I also believe there can be issues with tilt shift lenses on bodies with a pop-up flash.

You say poor analogy, but it certainly sounds like you agree with their business models being similar? I never said BMW or Canon were in poor financial health... I actually was saying the exact same thing that you are... they charge more for things because they can. Sounds like you are on the same page save for the fact that you like bad leather.

I just re-joined the forum to get an opinion on this exact subject.

I have been using Canon DSLR's for 10 years and have finally decided to upgrade to FF. I have several L lenses so am heavily committed to Canon. I use the built in flash all the time, mainly for "fill-in" situations and now I find the 6D doesn't have one!!!!!!

I am not prepared to carry a flash gun everywhere and my wife would probably refuse to use the 6D. I am even considereing selling everything and switching to Nikon - what a dilema.

Tony

For some reason, Canon have decided that if you go full frame with their cameras, then you have too high demands to be satisfied with a built-in popup flash anyway.
Consider a Speedlite 270 EX or something. It's much better than a built-in, but no significant burden to carry. Then save the 600 EX-RT for the more important flash occasions.

Another thing is that built-in flashes collide with the movement of tilt and shift lenses, since the flash overhangs the lens mount quite a bit. Perhaps they considered it more important to be able to use such lenses without any restrictions?

For me, a pop-up flash lets you use your DSLR as a point and shoot.

Isn't that a good thing? The ability to take snapshots also. Auto focus also lets you use your DSLR as a point and shoot

Better to have and not need than need it and not having it

I'd love to have a popup on my 6D for no other reason than to trigger other flashes; or slight fill in backlit shots (where I tend to currently just shoot the middle and pull up face/pull down background)
