I was second shooter at a country style wedding this past weekend. This was the very first time photographing a wedding. Both the bride and groom (friends with 1st shooter) knew this ahead of time. I'm not completely thrilled with how they came out. The sun light was very harsh and I had a hard time adjusting to it. However, I had a blast and learned A LOT from this adventure. The best part, for me, is the bride and groom are quite happy with the photos.

Learn to use fill flash. That's really all you can do in situations like this where you have no control over the light or where people stand/walk, etc. Sometimes there really is nothing you can do - a situation can be so bad lighting wise. Strive to also capture emotion because if you get the emotion, the technical aspects of the photo start to take a back seat to the viewers who were there and want memories more than a technically perfect photo. Use time where you have just the couple or just one or the other to do the poses and control your light. Can't always do it during a ceremony.

The second one is quite nice although I don't love the conversion. #1 is an outtake IMO because her eyes are closed.

I am super cool n' stuff.

Thanks all! I learned a lot from this day. I have another coming up next month. I hope that I can take what I've learned and get some better results.

Easy choice #2 is the winner, well at least my favorite.

I agree that #2 is the best out of the bunch. I'd like to see the foreground elements a little more OOF and her fist kinda bothers me a little, but that's a nit pick.

I'd trash the first one since her eyes are closed.
