These are my shots of the CF 18 from Sunday, which was a much nicer day than Sat. Besides the take off we were treated to a touch & go & a low and slow pass which made it relatively easy to get a few decent shots from his flight.

Very neat. Love those low-flying shots! And the exhaust blast too.

Thanks for sharing.

May I ask what lens and body combination you were using?

. . . great shots Larry, and it was a great show too !!
The CF-18 demo was spectacular - along with the rest of the aircraft.
Too bad the Lanc was snagged.

All of my CF 18 shots are with a 1D4 & 100-400 L and I think they were all shot at 1/1000. I used that body & lens for just about all the flying EXCEPT the Snowbirds. I switched to a 28-300 L for the Snowbirds. I did take a few shots with the 1Ds2 & 28-300 L but I don't think many will be used in the albums I'll be doing. I shot the same combinations both days & must have well over 2000 images to go through. Saturdays weather was a challenge lighting wise but luckily I shot RAW & jpg so I should be able to pull a few nice images of the CF 18 in much higher humidity. It performed right after the heavy rain let up. I was positioned just about 25-30 feet from the western most corner of the spectator area both days so I had a good vantage point for the take offs. Never left that area during the alloted flying time so if it flew I shot it, but one plane did perform his routing in that downpour so I've only got 4 or 5 shots of him Sat.

That's a lot of weight to be carrying around.

Did you use the IS feature on the lens, as some of your shots seem a little soft to me?

I know when the planes were transitioning from the forested background to the clear sky the exposure and sometimes the focusing got tricky.

Yes re the IS except for a while Sunday morning. Mode 2 & I knew it may have been better to turn it off but now that I'm a senior citizen I use it whenever I'm in doubt. As for the weight your right, but I carry all that & sometimes a 3rd body with a 17-40 L for longer periods at the R/C events. On Sunday I realized I'd rarely need the 1Ds2 so I put it & my bag on the ground beside me as soon as I found my place. That was far more comfortable
I didn't think any looked soft before downsizing for the uploads (I have very slow internet service) but I'll take a careful look tonight.

Larry

Here, finally, are some of my shots of the CF-18 Demo at the Wings Over Gatineau Show last month:

Very nice set, and thanks to your addition I found out some of my links were dead. Fixed that. Were you shooting from the VIP area?
