Is there anything I can do to make it work? I got a like new 28-200 XR Tamron [the newer model] and it shows the Err 99 message with most pics I try to take with it. Is there firware I can upgrade on my EOS 10D to make it work, or should I return this lens to the eBay seller I bought it from?

Thanks.

Can you try it on a more modern canon camera and see if it's the lens at fault, or just the age of your camera body?

Yes. try it on a more recent body if you can but I think the lens is probably faulty as Tamron lenses don't usually have problems on Canon bodies and the 10D only had problems with much older (even than your Tamron) Sigma lenses.

I only have two Canon 10D bodies and they both are in really good condition. Thanks for the replies. I guess I'm going to send it back to the seller. It's a great looking lens but if it won't work on a 10D it may not work on other bodies either, and I don't want to risk reselling it and having it fail for someone else on some other camera. :)
