What do you think? Is buying a 5Dc pointless now since the announcement of the 6D and it's approximate price tag of $2000? I've been looking hard at 5Dc's but now I'm not too sure.

Sep 18, 2012 09:56 | #2 Well, price difference is pretty big, even in Europe they sell for 700€ so you could save a fortune. 5D still takes some of the best pictures a Canon ever could. You might miss AF adjust or live view but otherwsie stellar camera. Wish I had kept mine. http://natureimmortal.blogspot.com

And since you can get a used 5Dc for $800 or so now, the question is simply this: does $1300 difference matter to you? Glancing at the spec sheet I would guess the 6D to be a big improvement in almost every way over the 5Dc, so are those improvements worth $1300 to you? They aren't to me, but I'm not spending your money

Wether it will work for you, more depends on how you will use it and what you will be shooting. It still has more than enough to keep a lot of shooters happy.

Sep 18, 2012 11:14 | #7 i believe that the 5Dc is still capable and I plan to use it specifically for portraits. I guess I still just get caught up in the spec wars which is strange because before digital none of camera except my 35mm needed batteries! I'm guess there is a floor that the price of the 5Dc will bottom out to and not go much further so possible resale value wouldn't be bad. ~Steve~

If price isn't an issue, you can wait for the 6D release or get a second hand 5DII. However, the 5Dc is still a great camera body. If you don't mind the age of it and some of it's limations, I would go with that.

Sep 18, 2012 13:09 | #12 Yeah my EF lens line up is limited. 28mm Zeiss MF lens, 50 1.8, 85 1.8, Tamron 70-300. Most of the time I'm using the 85 so that should keep up okay with the 5Dc. I'm waiting to see what the new Tamron 70-200 2.8 looks before buying that or the Siggy. How much are the lenses I have going to struggle with the 5Dc? ~Steve~

If you are shooting stuff that doesn't move much and are comfortable with MF, I think the 5D is what you want. The original 5D works well for people that compose their shots in the way they would with, like you say, a MF camera. If you need quick shots (either due to what you shoot, or an ADD style) then a 7D or 5D3 will be more useful in terms of AF, auto iso, etc. The 5D is definitely slower to use (I manually set the ISO for each shot) but the results of being more contemplative and less "Squirrel!" CLICK reactionary have made my photos/results much more enjoyable to me. Sony A6000 | 18-55 | 16-50 | 50 f1.8
