Actually, I might jump on a 5Dc if I found one with a low shutter cound and in good shape. I just dont want to shoot it for 500 shots then have it go out in the middle of a shoot. So the added cost is actually good for business.

The 5D is definitely slower to use (I manually set the ISO for each shot) but the results of being more contemplative and less "Squirrel!" CLICK reactionary have made my photos/results much more enjoyable to me.

I believe you've summed me up there as well. I was taught old school with composition and "making" the photo before ever clicking the shutter mainly because sheet film wasn't cheap. I have a 60D for "spray and pray." Heck I will still use a light meter quite often instead of chimping.

You want a 5D. You will not miss the geotagging and gadgets of the 6D. Buy prime lenses with the savings. I would really recommend trying anything from Samyang/Rokinon, as well as possibly some vintage glass. I was in your same boat and immediately sold my 40D because I realized it would hardly ever get used again.

It's only pointless if the price difference doesn't matter.

As cool as the 6D is, I am more excited that it will further drive down the prices on used 5Dc and early 1D(s) models, so I can afford/justify a second FF or 1.3 crop body.

What do you think? Is buying a 5Dc pointless now since the announcement of the 6D and it's approximate price tag of $2000? I've been looking hard at 5Dc's but now I'm not too sure.

if you could get a 5Dc cheap, realize the limitations and hope it doesn't require repairs in the near future then it would not be pointless

Well i have a 5D and apart from complaining that it is big and bulky i can't say a bad thing about IQ. Wonderful simply wonderful, i am actually curious, as it seems to be better (colour wise and overall) than my previously owned 7D...

Just remember that if you get a FF, you are going to have get a lens or 2, considering your current line-up. Depending on what you get, 2 good lenses could cost you $1-2K. Getting a 5D classic might give you the wiggle room to buy those lenses. I would dare say that you won't be able to tell differences between photos taken on the 6D at ISOs 1600 and lower to that of the 5Dc. Shoot middle point with expansion, and that AF is capable for many things including several aspects of sports and competitions.

I look at the pictures taken with 5D and still surprised by the quality. If you can grab one for $600 or under, I would go for it.

Hmm... I just looked at your gear. You have 3 EF-S lenses that can't be used on FF. So assuming you need a lens or two to go with your shiny new (or used) FF camera, you could pick up a 5D and a 35L for the price of a 6D. Given the choice I know which one I'd pick!

i actually keep on thinking whether moving back to the 5Dc from the 5Dii.
it does everything it needs. the only thing I will really miss from the II really is high ISO (usable 1600-3200iso)

I'm thinking of doing the same thing. I have the Canon 60D right now, but I don't necessarily use it for video. I'm still a beginner but I enjoy taking pictures and have heard the IQ on FF beats crop all the time. I was thinking of getting a 5dc to compare the image quality between the 2 cameras and keeping the winner. My lenses are the 40mm, 100mm 2.8 and 28-135mm. Would those lenses work well with the 5dc?

i'm seriously contemplating pairing my 60D with 5Dc just to have an entry into FF at a reasonable price. i have only heard great things about image quality.

Actually, now that the 6D is released, it's pointless to buy a 6D.

Nonsense comments like these are pointless.

I personally would not buy a 5Dc now. Just because it is still capable of taking great pictures doesn't mean it is worth buying. By that logic everyone should just go buy an old film rangefinder.

You have to look at what you personally want and/or need from a camera and choose accordingly.
