Kind of surprising that the MkIII isn't in the top 20.

Why? We've seen massive discounts to try entice people to buy. This tells me it is not selling as well as people thought it would.

That list includes the 6D, which kind of makes it bogus. But I would not expect a rather expensive professional-oriented camera to be in the top 20 of a consumer market list.

D800 is right up there.

Interestingly, other people are denying finding "massive discounts" anywhere.

I would point out that the previous 5D iterations all dropped two or three hundred dollars from their initial prices within just a few months.

Well, without a doubt, all those megapickles are a big marketing point.

Evidently they are pre-orders. Also, there are several other rather expensive cameras on the list. The MkII is there as well as the D600 and D800.

To the CONSUMER,, Maybe not so much to the professional market. Most of us want less. I love the fact that the 1Dx is 18mps...I shoot my formals and Seniors in full raw, but when i get to a reception or in a dressing room,,im in M-raw....Its easy to switch back and forth but but for what i do, the 5Dc files were plenty....My clients rarely print above 20x30. Most of the time they will want 16x20's and 16x24's.

I have my 5d3's set on the SD cards to capture M-raw.. strictly for back up purposes. I understand the guys that need MPs...but for the majority,,its just not needed.

The MkIII has been offered several times for $2799, $800 off the original price. They seem to sell out quite quickly. Of the big online stores, Adorama and Beach both have offered it at that price.

I think arguing about Nikon vs. Canon is a bit pedantic in today's market. Both make exceptional cameras with little discernible difference from the resulting shots for each price/performance bracket.

It also seems that people are so caught up in "gear" mentality that they will argue to the death about specs, but they still take crappy shots and don't worry so much about improving as a photographer...//...

One of the best posts in the thread so far.

I see people with a list of gear as long as your arm, post photos of what they had for dinner in a bar somewhere; and almost nothing else.

I see people with 5-series cameras and expensive zooms shoot flat, dull, boring shots of zoo animals; and almost nothing else.

I see people argue until the blood is spitting out against other members about which lens you MUST use for each given scene....while having posted not one single photo themselves!

I know a lot of us "love" our gear, but really, isn't it time to stop arguing pointlessly and get out there, improve your photography and post something that really SHOWS how great you and your gear are.

Regards,
Simon

In short, they wanted the 5D3 again but at $2k.

You got it wrong, pal. We want value for money, not a 5D3 for $2K.

The 5DIII is well spec'd but not a good value at $3500.
At $2750, it's very good value.

Same for the 6D.
Very disappointed to see Canon putting a subpar AF system on a $2100 model.
No, I don't expect the latest 61-point AF on this body.
But a single cross-point??? The frickin new Rebel has 9 cross-points.

I would rather a single cross point with -3 EV light sensitivity with 11 AF points in total than 9 cross types like a rebel.
And it's a budget full frame, where else but the AF system were they going to save money? Unlike Nikon, Canon did not have the luxury of a 36 megapixel camera that they could cut down to 24 megapixels. The only significant avenue Canon had for cost cutting, is the autofocus.

The real issue is that Canon has once again released a camera, and the perpetual "discussions" (ie bickering) on how good or bad the new camera is, coupled with each person's individual view of their perfect camera, be it driven by budget, features, varying needs, etc, has created yet another pre-release comparison thread to other cameras, only to start back up again once the camera is actually somebody's hands. :)

And yet, they are selling for $3500 at Adorama right now. The price has not dropped...stores have had sales. Not the same thing. And for sure, stock goes more quickly when there is a sale.

"Value" is mutable and varies from person to person. It's not a good value to you...but that's a matter of what you plan to do with it.
