Here is a screenshot from a 720p video shot on a $100 Sony NEX 3 with a 50 year old manual focus lens.

Notice how the fence is sharp. The trees are a little blurry, because that is what video compression does. When you actually watch the video (which is how it's supposed to work) you don't notice the blurry-ness because your brain fills in the details across the frames. Video compression is based on your brain doing this.

Take a Hollywood Bluray. Watch the video. See how it looks really good. Now pause on a frame. See how it looks much worse than you would expect. And how a picture should look much better. That's the difference between JPEG picture and MPEG movie compression.

If that is what you are seeing, it is normal.

Get a polarizer if you're going to shoot thru glass, your 18-55 kit is fine, you just need to learn all the nuances of your 60D

If you can afford to make the leap... 5dmkiii is a great camera. Worth the extra dough if you can make it happen. Then save up for a good L lens!
