I have just returned from a 2 weeks safari. I took a 7D and used mosly the sigma 50-500 for wildlife, and some scenic shots with the 15-85. Initial viewing of results are pretty good (for me). I am keen to use this experience to learn processing with the objective of converting 5 to 6 out of the 1200 shots taken into large prints / posters.
What software would you recommend for processing? I'd rather avoid free or too basic software if that makes sense. I tried searching but found that most threads were about specific tasks using Lightroom. Thanks

Your question is not clear. Are you asking about software to process all 1200 images, or just about software to re-size 5 or 6 to print at poster size?

Some Canon stuff and a little bit of Yongnuo.

The Adobe line of software (i.e. Photoshop and Lightroom) tend to be the standard for most. Exactly which editor you get really depends on the degree of editing you plan on doing. The good news is, you can download trials for free off the Adobe website. In short, Lightroom is designed primarily as a photo database, but also has quite powerful editing tools that can handle most basic touch-up, color correction, tone and contrast correction, along with many other basic editing needs quite nicely. Photoshop is a more dedicated editing tool with finer tuned and more powerful editing tools that can handle more dramatic photo editing (along with all the basics of course). Then, you have Photoshop Elements, which is a slimmed down (and significantly less expensive) version of Photoshop. There are certainly other programs out there, but I haven't used most of them personally.

Lastly, if you're looking to do very large prints, you may want to get specific software for "up-resing" your photos so they can be printed with acceptable quality at very large sizes (Photoshop can do it, but many photographers use dedicated software). I'm not sure exactly how big you want to print, though.

Many thanks for the replies.
I'd like to sort the shots, chose the top 5 or 6, enhance them and then make the large prints.
I am a newbie... But I have just watched quite a few tutorials on Adobe TV and I believe LR4 is what I should go for. Thanks again.
