Do you know of another camera that has such a "low light" AF sensor?

If this is truly a first, and works as advertised, will it be enough to make this camera a low light legend?

-3EV is defined as basically being able to focus under full moonlight but no other lights.

Full moonlight is about a 1/4 of a lux (lumens per square meter). It's higher on the equator (~1 lux)

That's pretty freaking dark if you ask me and quite impressive if it's actually true.
I'm anxious to see what the reviews say, but it seems, so far, that this camera even with only one crosspoint AF, it'll be able to focus anywhere.
Add to that the quiet shutter feature and tethering to a smartphone or ipad and it's looking pretty sweet.

When all hysteria subsides, I think we'll be looking at this camera under a different light (pardon the pun). ;)

Think new Canon lenses are overpriced? Lots (and lots) of data will set you free!

i wonder if it only requires f2.8 or if it needs faster glass to work to that sensitivity.

EV is independent of maximum f-stop on a lens, it is rather a measure of all the combinations of aperture and shutter speed which give the same exposure.
EV = 0 is an exposure of 1 second at f1 and an ISO of 100; each step up or down in EV is equivalent to 1 stop difference in exposure.

It looks like the first words out of Photokina are very encouraging regarding the AF sensitivity of the 6D. It's looking very good. I'll be there on Saturday. Hopefully I'll be able to brave the crowds to have a peek at this new low light beast.

I guess I will pass on the 1DX for the 1DX Mark II, which will hopefully have the same low light focusing abilities of the 6D. LOL

That's why there's no dedicated joystick. You will only use the center anyway no need to change it haha
